Have a Nice Day? Eclipse police car??? I don't think so!

So I'm driving home last night on I-75 at about 10:00pm and notice a lowered, 1st gen. Eclipse coming up an on ramp. Seeing as how there is hardly any traffic on this 5 lane strech I figured I'd play a little. I go past him as he is still accelerating to get up to "interstate" speed and notice the neon, the chrome door edge gaurd and wipers and chuckle to myself. As I go by he gets behind me and I see him starting to catch up, I drop down a gear and jump pretty far ahead of him. I keep accelerating and he is staying the same distance behind me but not catching up. This goes on well past 120mph, my exit is coming up so I get over one lane to the right and start slowing down, this idiot gets right behind me and comes flying up to my bumper and turns on his "strobes" (white strobes not blue or red, in his headlights, indicators and in the grille! ) and I hear an alarm siren going off! WTF does this guy really think that he looks like a cop? Moron, like I'm gonna pull over for an Eclipse!
Just thought it was funny!

Wow! Those police are too well equipped! I am glad that all I have to deal with where I live are Crown Vic's and the occassional Ford Exploder!

Ian, where do you live? It says "Humberside" in that picture, but what country is that in?

In the UK, we have about 10 forces that have at least 3 Impreza's now, all turbos, all Prodrive modified.

Here in FL, they use Crown Vics, Mustangs, Tahoe's, Cherokee's, Lumina's, Taurus's and Intrepid's mostly, you see an occasional Camaro and the FHP has a couple of Porsche's. But no one uses Eclipse's!

EDIT: I forgot, the local PD (City of Tampa) has 3 Honda Civic's (seized from illegal street races) that it uses to work undercover in the street racing scene. The undercover's go to the hang out's and look like everyone else and find out where the racing is going on and radio it in.

Yea, in SC where I grew up they had Crown Vics, Caprices, Mustangs, Camaros, BMWs, Explorers, Broncos, Bronco II's, F-150's, Luminas, Tauruses, Rangers, Tahoes, Suburbans, and Chevy Astros. I don't think I left anything out. In Columbia one day, I did see a marked MR2 Turbo. I think there are 10-15 MR2's in SC. All of these cars were either marked or unmarked. The ONLY way to tell an unmarked car before he turned on his lights were by the "permanent" license plates, and of course the uniformed officer sitting in there. I got pulled over by a Camaro one time in my CRX. I passed him on a curve at 85. I saw his braked immediately. I slowed down to 75 and was hoping I could get to the next turnoff before he found me. He caught up with me within 20 seconds.

Of course, they have golf carts, motorcycles, and 4-wheelers on the beaches too.

I was in Halifax, Nova Scotia, (Canada) and saw a marked Police Beetle. I had all the cherries and everything, I almost pissed my pants. I took a pic, I'll upload it to the site when I get it scanned..

(Maybe this thing had a VR6 in it? hehe j/k )

Of all of the above mentioned police vehicles, I think everybody knows which one I am most concerned about - the WRX!

Hucker,

I live in Halifax and I have seen the Beetle Cop. Just yesterday, I saw an Acura 1.8 EL, all done up for the cops too. Kind of funny. I think they're more patrol vehicles and for show than for pursuits. For that, they're getting those new Chevy Luminas. Blech. They should get a WRX.

I think some departments of the Italian Police have also chosen the Impreza as their new police vehicles. They probably learned from the police in the UK. I wonder if we can get that version of the car here. That would be sublime.

I guess here in the Pacific Northwest, the Staters in the Snoqualimie Pass area are using V70-T5-AWD Volvo Wagons, white and "unmarked"... pretty sweet cruisers if you ask me...

I'd like to get pulled over by them sometime just to shoot-the-sh** about their car... -giggle-

In Vancouver (North Van to be exact) the police have an A6, Landrover and I think a ML340. No, I don't think the taxpayers bought them. I think they are on loan. Also the newer Motorbikes are BMW's. I am thinking of quitting my job and riding a BMW all day. Doesn't sound too bad to me.

Cool

I happen to have SEEN a eclipse police car! She is in the Cypress police department. She works for the DARE program. I think it's a 97-98, has a custom paint job, crome rims, and many other goodies. She comes my school from time to time. I'll have to get a look under the hood. She won the best looking cop car in Cali, I'm not to sure what they call the competion. It's the best looking cop car I've seen.

Question

Never mind, I just read the posts started by Brucelee and it explained it. BTW - I noticed that primitive racing also sell the rear skid pads. How do they compare tho the OEM rear diff. protector?

Thanks,

There is suppose to be a white unmarked Eclipse in Illinois as well... And don't forget about the dozen or so unmarked Mustangs, and the scatterings of unmarked Cameros...

Aspen CO police use Saab 9000s, and also several communities in NH and VT. In NH the state troopers are supposed to have a highly modified 9000 Aero that pushes over 350 horses. Ouch.

My county in Va. uses modified Corvettes and Camaros for pursuit/undercover vehicles. Other than that the pretty usual stuff.
