Talking Funny thing happened - Stopped traffic!

Please share your stories here. The other day I was going down US1 to the mall, and this boy in a 90s style honda with shiny rims stopped traffic, searched his car, open the door, and aimed a kodac camera at my car! wow that was strange. He took a pic and rode out, no questions! I hope my car does not end up on a rice-boy page (cuz i now realize my car is come off as pretty ricey!)

On my way to the drag strip tonight I stoped in for some dinner at the local Micky D's close to the track. As I was parking a newer Toyota 4x was parking as well, and out poped a guy I would say was in his late 50's to early 60's. As soon as he walked up to my car, he started asking me smart questions like " Do you have to wind it up?" and "How far can you go before you have to rewind it?"
I just smiled and made small talk with him.

usualy I can take a good jab from the muscle car guys, they always poke fun of the 4 cylinder cars, but having grandpa give me a hard time has to take the cake

My boss is hoping to meet me out on the road sometime (in his 1982, 200-horsepower, auto-tranny, hog-of-a-car, corvette) so he can give me a lesson in american sportscars. Man, could I out-corner that car given the chance!!

Cool

So is this the reason you might not be able to make it to the Autocross,,, Your car has gotten camera shy

I think your car and mine should have their own set of chop sticks for eating all the rice....

At the first Autocross I went to in Tampa where I met Opie and SUV ETR there was a kid with a civic who stopped as he drove past our Subies and told his girlfriend to take most of the pictures of our cars. I guess it was flattering, haven't seen anything on the rice pages....Yet.

haha....yeah, about 2 weeks ago, I'm pulling into the parking lot for my soccer game. I see some of my teammates out there already, so I honk the horn. Next thing I know, I get the attention of some tourist guy who stops to take pictures of my car. He was waiting for me to pull in so he could get a "non moving" shot or something. I just thought it was so weird, and felt extremely embarressed. Other than that, I just get the hundreds of people turning their heads and pointing all the time.

It's all a conspiracy I tell ya!

All the people taking pictures are from SOA and are documenting your motions, lifestyles and habits to develop a better car that can meet everyones needs! Fuhgheddabout enthusiasts...bah, who needs them. They're only trouble anyway.

NickSTi - He will probably took the picture as a reference for parts he wants for his Accord. You'll see it in a few months...Big KC lights mounted under the bumper, hood scoop attached with double sided tape, BIG wing and 2.5TypeRS stickers...LMAO

Last fall, I was waiting for a green light on the "left turn only" lane. As the adjacent traffic began to go through the intersection, the drivers of the first two cars were staring at my Impreza. The lead car slowed down but the second did not. Fortunately, he saw the car in front of him in time and slammed on his brakes.

I nearly caused a fender bender! So...don't hate me coz my car is beautiful!

The funniest thing that happened to me while stopped in trafic. One car ahead and one lane to the left is a four door car, I don't remember, let's say it was a Jetta. They were just sitting at the light minding there own business, and the guy in the back seat opens up his door and just PUKES ( ) right there in the middle of the road. He calmly shuts the door, the light turns green, and they drive away like nothing ever happened. I was laughing so hard, I could barely drive. I think that was the first time I witnessed a puking first hand, but certainly not the last. (ahh college)

LOL Exactly! I'm always being stopped here in Houston. There's not many of us here and so when there's an RS-spotting it's an event. Especially when the person who sees us knows about the RS.
OK...so who's gonna make the official i-club pamphlets?!

Talking

Oh, here's another one. This happened about a month ago. I pull up at a light next to a lowered Accord with 18" super chrome rims and gold badges all around. The gangster boyz inside start checking out my car like it was a naked woman. It was nice day out so we all had our windows down, and they start asking me questions.
them: Hey man, what kind of car is that?
me: It's a Subaru Impreza
them: Is it fast?
me: Yea, it's pretty quick. It handles really well.
them: Do you race it?
me: Yeah, I do autocrosses.
them: (blank looks)
me: (This is always so hard to explain) We race around orange cones in parking lots.
them: What does it run?
me: What do you mean, like the price?
them: Quarter mile.
me: I don't know I've never drag raced it.
them: Oh.
The light turns green, we go different directions.

Revision and I are sitting in a Burger King a few days ago having discussions on the preformance of certain intakes and how others could preforms and suspension and vehicle dynamics. All the while we were watching our cars out the windows (my MY00 Silver Coupe and his MY99 Silver Coupe) and this Probe with a huge exhaust just keeps driving by and looking and driving by and looking back and forth. *shrug* Too many people rice out those probes around here... lol

Local riceboy with an early 90's 4-door Civic with every ricey mod you can think of and a bumble-bee sounding exhaust is always looking at my car out of the corner of his eye. Sometimes, I'll park the car on the street in front of my house and watch people from the upstairs window. If they think the owner's not around, they're more likely to take a good look at the car. Quite a few honda drivers have stopped and got out and gave the car a good look before driving away. But the civic guy actually pulled into my driveway and looked at the car for a few seconds before pulling away. Driving towards the parking lot exit of the supermarket the other day, 3 kids in a generic car were sitting in the no-parking zone (imagine that) and as I drove by the kid in the back seat yelled out the window, "That's a kick-ass car man!" I just waved and drove on. Last weekend as I was getting into my car parked on the street, two guys from the apartments down the street were walking toward the store and passed by me and said "Hey, what kind of car is that?" "Subaru Impreza". "That's a really cool car man, I've seen that around town." "Thanks". They stood behind the car staring at it few a moment before I drove away. Nice fellows.

The first day I had it at home, my neighbor (early 50's vietnam vet) said "Is that thing as fast as it looks?" That's actually a pretty tough one. I had to respond "No, not quite that fast, but it'll go."

My favorite remark:
I was in a building with friends, when I look outside and see a gang of people circling the car. I watch to make sure nothing happens, and tap my friends so they can see. Then the group walks inside and asks "Who's white car is that?" I tell them mine. They respond "Wow, that's cool, I didn't know BMW made a car called the Impreza." I just stared at them for a while. They apparently thought it was a Bimmer 'cause, get this, "It had those sidemarkers."

Cool

I work at a place where we tend to get a lot of tourists. I had driven over to the other department to drop off some paper work. On my way back, three dudes stopped in the middle of the road to look at my car and wouldn't get out of my way. I waited for like a half a minute before they decided to get out of my way. Then they started to search for their camera, but couldn't locate it in time. They did make sure to read what it said on the back of my car, I presume, to figure out what car it was.

Cool

i am a teacher at a high school in MN. a suburb of St paul/ minneapolis, with plenty of farmers around. several of my red-neck students continually give me trouble about my car. Foreign cars are crap is their typical comment. "does it ever start?" things like that. one of the students seems to think his 94 chevy pickup would kick my ars in a race. he has on several occasions asked me to go to their local spot to race... all i can think is the local headline the next day. "student dies when truck loses control racing teacher" otherwise i would truely love to show him what these cars can do. i have also asked him to do some research on his own about top speeds and acceleration numbers. he just shrugs his shoulders.

Once i had to park my car in a no parking zone as I went to pick something up real quick, when I get back a see this police girl "trying" to give me a ticket, as I took of the Subaru letters from the trunk, she just couldn't fill out the part that says MAKE, unfortunately when I approached to move it, she asked me what kind of car is this?, Oh it's a Subaru, damn! I should have said Honda, cause she finished and gave me the ticket...

Living in Hawaii...it's kinda wierd when the Japanese tourists here do the double take on my car...Have had quite a few snap my picture while I am on the road...I think the funniest story was I went to the gas station to check my air pressures...A japanese guy walks up and saids "VER 5"????..I say nope..It's a RS with a 2.5 motor..He nods and we continue small talk...Then I ask him what he did for a living...he saids "I am a mechanic at HONDA"..Really..I say...."But I drive a GC8" I am like COOOL...He has it all done up with SYMS and CUSCO stuff...He saids that in Japan, STi is to expensive and not as good as some of the other aftermarket companies...We exchange emails and Off I go...He must have took about 2 rolls of film on my car...Pretty Cool...They Know..hehehehe

Thumbs up

In the past three days, I've had one kid in a red Civic Si run a stop sign cause he was staring, a kid in my high school class (97) lean out of his blazer and nudge his passenger to take a look (couldn't see it was me, nightime + tinted windows), and a guy in a landscaping truck hang out of his window to get a better look. My sis was ridin shotgun and she commented - "Gee, looks like that guy really likes your car!"

Cool

Last Sunday at the Hollywood Park Solo II, a middle aged couple in a 70-something Corvette pulled up next to me as I finished my run and was pulling off the numbers. The lady was checking out my car (red '00 RS) and said, "Oh, it's a Subaru. I didn't know they made cars like that!" The only answer I could think of was something lame like "Yeah, they've had them since sometime in '98". She said it was cool. Her husband never looked up from under his Vette's hood.
The RS is one of the best kept secrets on the road, In LA weeks go by without another RS sighting. It's either the cheapest rare car or the rarest cheap car you can drive. BTW the Hollwwood Park Solo's are cancelled until further notice. The Horsey crown needs more parking spaces for their Navigators and Coupe de'Villes. Its on the www.solo2.com website.
