Post Rocky Mountain Rally Pics

Here's the link to my rally pics I took this weekend:
http://ksato.tripod.com/subaru/rockyRally.html

Holly crap, the McGeer WRX hauls ass on gravel!!! I didn't bother taking pictures of the 5.0 Mustang since it was soo slow, hehe. A lot of torque but all wheel spin, compared to the WRX... Enjoy!

It was just outside of Calgary in Alberta. Here's the final standings:
http://208.9.184.67/NonCGI/Forum8/HTML/000433.html

Our buddy Patrick Richard in the Rocket Rally RS was in it, along with 3-4 or RS's and the WRX. I don't know exactly how they imported the WRX, but since it's for offroading, it wasn't a problem to get here... anyone else know what the new specs are on that car? I heard they got a new shell for the car after using the other car shell for ~4 years.

Tom Mcgeer is sponsored by Subaru Canada. His car is set up as a Group A FIA car. His is a real Wrx. He only races on the canadian pro rally circuit.

In his car, his EJ20 is tweaked out around 380-400hp and that's with a a restrictor on the Turbo. He has a 6 speed Prodrive tranny.

If you have a chance to come up to a canadian rally, you'll have a chance to come and see it up close.

And not to mention the Subaru Lachute car is a converted RS.

Here's the link to the 2000 Canadian events: http://www3.sympatico.ca/rally.cars/y2k/calendar.html

And here's Pat Richard's press release from the event...

Rocket Rally Racing rolls while leading Production GT at Rocky

VANCOUVER, BC - They rocked. And then they rolled. Two stages away from a
Production GT win at this weekend's Rocky Mountain Rally, Rocket Rally
Racing rolled its Subaru Impreza RS. The B.C.-based team ended up
finishing the Alberta event 15th out of 29 cars.

Before the roll, the team had been locked in a tight battle for 1st place
in Production GT - and 5th overall - with the Eagle Talon of Brian Scott
and David Watts, of Michigan. "We swapped the lead several times," said
Ian McCurdy, Rocket Rally Navigator. "With the Talon's power advantage,
Scott and Watts were faster on the uphill stages. But we were faster on
the downhill stages." Rocket Rally Racing managed to eke out a 12-second
lead right before the last two stages of the event: an 18-kilometre run
downhill and then the same run uphill. But they knew that small lead
wouldn't secure the win.

"We knew Scott and Watts would take about 10 to 15 seconds on the uphill
stage, so we needed to do well on that downhill stage. Five seconds was
all we needed. We went all-out, I wanted to win. In retrospect, I wasn't
thinking about the championship," explained Pat Richard, Rocket Rally
Driver.

About two kilometres from the end of the downhill stage, the car rolled on
a 3rd gear left and hit a tree. After about 20 minutes, the team - with
the assistance of the Subaru team of Dave Kozegi and Todd Patola, of Port
Alberni, B.C. - put the car back on its wheels and finished the event.

"Thankfully, the damage was minimal: just some basic bodywork and a few
wheels out of alignment," explained Crew Chief Dave Clark, of Dave Clark
Motorsports. "The car will certainly be ready for the team's next race,
Rallye Baie des Chaleurs in Quebec on July 7."

Despite the roll, the team still leads the Production GT standings in the
2000 Subaru Canadian Rally Championship and the North American Rally Cup.
Rocket Rally Racing is supported by Specialty Subaru of North Vancouver,
Drummond Motor Sport and Dragon Eyewear.

Rocky Mountain Rally will be televised several times on TSN and RDS,
starting June 18.

Dave kicks ass.

The best story is the following:

He built my roll cage really fast upon my request to run Rocky and then said:

"You better not run this car at Wild West. Your car will be destroyed. I need to prep it beforehand."

I was like "Hrmph. The total up-sell... SO what needs to be done..."

He was like:

"Your gas tank will be destroyed, the car is too low so the floor and frame will get trashed, you don't have suspension, the oil pan will be toast, that skidplate is useless, etc.etc." He said about 12 things that would break.

I was like "Yah yah whatever. I'm running."

2 weeks later EXACTLY everything he said was gonna break, broke, and nothing more, nothing less..

I gained a lot of respect that day...

heehee

Now if only I could afford him (keep him from making mucho $$ building rollcages in brand new Porsches all day long)...
