O/T...GPS Systems...

I am looking to purchase a GPS system in the near future...but am comtemplating which one I want...
I know Garvin and a couple of other brands.. just wondering which is the easiest to use...(I awant a handheld) for the best price

A friend of mine bought one a year ago. It sit in his drawer even tho he refuses to admit it.
mapquest and done. free. save the money, buys some gifts for your car.

It was cool to go alllll the way to the islands and see it wukk tho.

I have a Magellan GPS2000XL that I got a few years ago. It's nice, but the only real use I had for it was to act as a speedo in my Triumph Spitfire.

But it was the cheapest that I could find that used Military Grid Coordinates as well as Lat/Long.

I used to use both MapQuest and MapBlast for trip directions, but I noticed that MapBlast provides the best routes overall.
But give them both a try. NickSTI is right, use the money you save to buy gifts for your car!

I've recently purchased a Trimble ProXR with the TSC1 Datalogger, but its overkill for anything less than professional use. However, it will do most anything you could want.

If you like, I can see what handhelds some of the pilots in the area use.

You definitely want to get one with a data output so you can toss a laptop in your car and use it. Just watch out...I was a fool and bought a GPS that uses the SiRF protocol.

Now I'm stuck with their proprietary software and can't run UNIX in the car (forced to use Windows). Make sure the GPS supports NMEA protocol because any software can read NMEA.

I have a Magellan 315 in my car.

Outputs to a laptop. Developed the software for mapping, and had a complete map of my city (Calgary, AB) scanned into the computer.

Works pretty awesome. Seldom use it.

Toys are fun!

I have a Clarion AutoPC. It's a one din AM/FM Radio, CD, Navigation system (GPS). It does moving map navigation and provides voice output to let you know where to make the turns. You can get them for $1000 new now, so it's also one of the cheapest systems on the market. You can also get MP3 software for it, which is pretty cool.
