Post Honda/Acura not sitting still either...

I found this tidbit on vtec.net. Does anybody really know what the approx. launch date for this car would be? Competition is always good

Integra loses its name for '01

Submitted by TOV News on May 09, 2000 at 16:44:50:

In the on-again, off-again world that is Honda/Acura marketing (or the rumour mill surrounding it, at least 8^), the latest on the Integra is that the name will be retired with the 3rd Generation of Integras. At one point a while back, it had been rumoured that this would be the case, but then there were rumours of a change of heart (and even rumours that the Legend name would be returning), but it seems Acura has decided for sure to go with the alphanumeric model designations across the board. As reported long ago here, the Integra sedan will cease to exist altogether (not to fret though, as a more than worthy FR competitor to Lexus' IS300 is well along in its development cycle).

In this week's Autoweek, it is said that the replacement for the Integra coupe will arrive without any significant increase in price over the outgoing model. Honda's VP of corporate planning and logistics told Autoweek that "It'll be a class up in sophistication... That's not to say it will be less sporty."

We're pretty certain at this point that the rumours of an FR configuration were wrong, but we're still hearing that a 2.0L motor (of around 200hp in "base" models and 220hp in Type R guise) will be thumping under the hood.

Thumbs up

Release time will be this year for the 2001 model year supposedly, but like Subaru with the new Impreza, they're being super-secret about it.

I can say one thing for the Integra the GS-R I had was a decent car. There were a few bad things about it though. First the interior was super cheap looking. Everything looked like it was Glad-Bag plastic. The cam seals went out 3 times while I owned it. I finally replaced them with a aftermarket company only to find out that they voided my warranty. The cars sucked in any kind of damp road conditions. The cops watched you more cause your one of those riceboys. The backseat should just be eliminated since it is so useless. I did like the top end and the rear window wiper. They had a HUGE aftermaket.

I thought that was the word long ago, something about the Integra losing its name and style.
I also heard of plans for everything to be based on the S2000 platform. NOW THAT would be cool.

An FR setup sounded very cool, but I was always pretty doubtful that would happen. If the rumor is correct, it will be interesting to see how effectively it can out down 220hp through the front wheels.
