Post window thing

I've wondered this thing is for the longest time... does anyone know what the actual function of this thing is?

I've never found anyone who could tell me for certain.

(can't get link the pic directly, so please click the link and bear with me!)

It's a guide-tab for the window.

Yeah well, they sure as hell dont work as a theft deterant.

That doesnt make sense. If that were to stop the window from being pried, how would you open the door with the window up?

I think it's just a track for when you roll up the window... no- that doesnt make sense either! Same problem. huh! Now I'm all confused.

Greg is right...it keeps your window on the right track when you are rolling it up. It helps to push it inward in case it goes a little too far out.

if that's a guide for the window, then how do you open and close the door with the window up?

Giulio: car doors are typically hinged and will open around the tab . Doors that have framed windows also have these things.

Theft deterrent? One of the easiest ways to get into an older Civic is to use the guide tabs as a lever and push the window out past them -- the tab will keep the window out of the frame so you can get into the car. Never tried it, but so I hear -- those cars were so easy to slim-jim that I never had to bother with anything extreme when locking my keys in them

Maybe it's a handle for your window monkey. Just a thought.

Yes folks, that must be it... we have a winner! (I think it's the best answer yet, anyway)
