Question How much did you pay for your car, MY99's only

I'm just curious how much everyone paid for their cars. There is a similiar post going on MY00's, so I started to get curious what everyone paid. Allow me to tell my story. I have one of those friends, you know, the guy that knows everyone and can get everything at a reall really good price, yet he never ever ever pulls through. Well I mentioned to this guy I was looking to get a 99RS, and he says "YO KID, I LIKE USED TO WORK AT THIS PLACE SMITH CAIRNS, LET ME CALL MY MAN AND YO, HE'LL LIKE HOOK YOU UP!" So I was like, OK Matt, sure, yeah great, you do that. Well he calls this guy, and the dude tells me he has one 99 RS left in white (which is what I asked for), and he says the sticker is a little over $20,000, like $20,300, or something. So he says, "Well, since your friends with Matt I'll sell you the car for $18,800." WHAT!?! So I went down the next day and it turns out he sold my dad and uncle a total of four or five trucks, so I told him to give me a better deal. Final price, $18,300!! Floor mats, keyless entry, but no CD. Well, I thought I got a really good deal, so please, post your prices paid, and if you feel so inclined, leave the story of your subie. Later guys.

Well it all depends on when you bought your '99 too.

If you bought it when the 2000's were shipping, then that's a fair price.

If you bought it when they were just getting out, then that's an excellent price.

I got mine loaded (Mats, 6 Disc CD Changer mounted in trunk, trunk net, Keyless Entry, Upgraded Sound, Diff Protector) for $19,950 in March '99.

I bought my '99 in October of '98 for $19,500. Keyless entry/security the only
option. Not a great deal, but I was the *only* one around for quite a while since I bought it so early...

Mine's not so much of what I paid but that I got the car I wanted. I had totalled my black '98 2.5RS andI went looking for a '99 Rally Blue but in June '99 when I went in to place my order, no dealership would special order any more '99s and Rally Blues just weren't to be found on any lots.

Anyway, big plug for Chris Fleming @ Huffines Subaru in Lewisville, TX because he went out of his way to bring in one of the final Rally Blues for '99. I paid a fair price for the car, and it was exactly what I wanted (with no test driving miles, just like I requested).

That's what was important to me, getting the car I wanted and not getting raped on it.

So Chris, you're going to give me a killer deal on a '02 WRX for the plug, right? j/k

Regards,
Trey

$20,137.00

Out the door every option available. And worth every penny. I bought it 4 months before they were taking orders on the 2000's. I would of paid 23K if that was what they going for, but not much more.

Man...someone here paid like $24,000 for a '00 RS. Yikes. I remember he was having a hard time choosing a white one or a silver one. He later chose white.

Hey garface,
Yeah it was the Smith Cairns on Central Ave. in yonkers. As a dealership, I really didn't care for them much, but the guy I bought the car from is really cool and he gave me a great deal. I also heard that they opened a new place for the Subarus, so if anyone reading this is thinking about buying an RS, talk to Fred Gruber. He is the man.

I paid way too much - close to MSRP is all I'll say.

Just as a few others have said, I put myself in a tough spot because It was late June / Early July 99 when I started looking... And, I REALLY wanted the Blue... (my next choices in order were black, silver, white)

So anyway, I got a bunch of BS from most dealers I went to, and only one guy ever called me like he said he would. Must be my timing and my young age. They probably thought I was a future Civic owner

One day I finally stumbled upon a Blue 99 RS. The salesman was a total dick, as he refused to talk about anything except payment amount... "What interest rate is that? What do you mean they don't give you that information?"

But, I wanted the car... I had to psuedo-calculate the interest and stuff in my head, and when I thought it was close, I finally gave an okay. I figured I'd see the rates when I sat down to sign the papers, so I just went along with it...

So then they threw an extended warranty telling me it added $300 to the total. I had to go back and yell at them later because I figured out it was really $1200!

Well, I was naive, and that's what I get I suppose. I've learned my lesson. But the bright side: I got Rally Blue... okay, that's not so bright... I'd probably have the money to paint the car Rally Blue If I bought it elsewhere...

have the following options
upgraded speakers and tweeter
upgraded factory alarm
floormats
and the factory cd player that no one wants
all that was in the car and i was stuck with it. if i have the choice i would have order the car just with the floormats.
oh well not a bad deal either.
the sticker price was at 21K without tax
they gave me the price for 16,800 without the tax.
decent deal.

Damn damn damn damn damn damn damn damn damn damn.

Did I say damn?

Now I feel like I really got screwed. I paid 24K and change (driven off the lot with tax title and registration etc) with all options in March of '99. All options include BtB Warranty for 7year/100K miles and a LoJack recovery system (awesome BTW). I did go to several other dealers and had them go over the numbers to see if they could get me a better deal (I didn't see anyone dial the phone to talk to the origional dealer) but they all said that I was getting a good deal. *sigh* I'll just have to make the warranty worth it. I need to get my clutch replaced (ie clutch chattering problem with cold weather/first start of the morning) and my windows replaced (gotta love scratches). I'll get what's due since what goes around comes around.

Bought mine (used) in December of '99, w/ 3,894 miles for $17,300. I bought it from the dealer that originally sold it after talking with the previous owner. I love the car, and no regrets on buying *slightly* used.

Go easy on yourself Rez... The 7 year warranty probably adds anywhere from 1000-3000 to the car cost at least... (I think they are the ones who determine the actual cost... no MSRP on ext. warranty?)

Break out the carbon copies and see where all of thew money really went. You might even be including the interest when you tell us 24K, but I don't know...

The big thing to remember is that it's over now, and theres nothing you can do except learn from your mistakes and be smarter next time... That's what I occasionally have to tell myself...

EDIT: Remember that most of us are quoting price BEFORE tax, title, interest, etc.

Rez, jasony, and many purchasers who haven't posted:

Don't feel screwed for buying, but do learn. It could have been much worse than what Rez described-- it's called a lease.

Now I'm not saying it's impossible to get a good lease. But there are a lot of people getting raped-- utterly taken advantage of-- by dealers pushing leases. Saw one that was $2K at purchase and $400 per month for 48 months and a residual of $10K. Now that is getting screwed, and we haven't even discussed mileage limits & penalties and excessive wear charges.

Read the purchasing advice on edmunds.com and other sites.
