Default My first track video! STi at Moroso

Hi all!

This is my first track video. It's a few of my first solo laps with the local NASA chapter. I finally got checked off!

I used Sony's Screenblaster Movie Studio software to edit it. Again... my first effort ever. It's a 4meg file. A bit choppy due to compression and dropped frames during capture.

Sti at Moroso (West Palm Beach, FL)

Tell me what you think!

Mike

While I like the video, I have to say that one of my personal pet-peeves is music overlayed on driving videos. I really dont care for it, I would much prefer to hear the car.

I prefer to hear the car, too. The only problem is that above 40 MPH, all you hear is the wind noise. I mean ONLY noise. And, I find wind noise even more annoying than music over engine sounds. At least I like Satriani!

So... I've got to figure out how to get the microphone positioned for better pick-up of engine / exhaust noise. Anyone got any pointers on how to do that?

Agree with Karter about music on top of car vids, BUT with many tracks requiring open windows for safety and the fierce wind noise that is the result, music is sometimes better than wind noise/silence. Otherwise, I enjoyed the video. How's the understeer?

First, you get top marks for Satriani, I meant to say that in my first post.

Second, I have had the problem with wind noise as well, I dont know what camera you are using, but on my old Canon ZR40 it has the ability to mute some of the wind noise. It helps, but certainly does not cure it. What I intend to do this season is to run an external mic. up under the passanger side footwell, near the firwall to try and pick up some of the engine sounds, and at the same time hopefully cut down on the wind noise. Dont know how well it will work, but I will play around with it.

The video was shot with a chasecam (formerly conecam). I used a ext. mike but it was clipped to the rubber gasket of the e-brake housing between the front seats. I'll try to put it up under the footwell and see what happens.

I thought the two Satriani songs were well-matched for the subject of the video.

The compression was killing me!

Dont compress your vids so much. If you need someone to host a large file, just pm me. Ill host it.

Otherwise, cool vid.

I picked up a couple PA-3 amplified mini mics from Supercircuits.com to use with my Chase Cam. The mics aren't great, but they do the job pretty well. I've actually only experimented with them a little bit - put on through the rear seat into the trunk to (hopefully) pick up the exhaust, and the other I had between the center console and passenger seat. Worked pretty well.
