Default Impreza TS vs RS + dealer invoice

Hi guys, im totally new so be gentle!

Im thinking of getting a new subaru, either a 04 sedan TS or the RS

my questions, 4u, the experts are :

what are the differences between the RS and TS, caus it seems to just be aesthetic stuff.

Does anyone know the dealer invoice in canada for a 04 TS or know where i may find it?

By the way, im still torn between a Mazda 3 gt or the TS.

get the TS sedan...no point paying an extra $5G+ for an RS. I asked a dealer what the difference between the two was and he bumbled around for a bit before saying, "spoiler and suspension". Get the TS, buy a spoiler or swap trunks with someone if you want one, and spend a few hundred on new springs.

If you can afford the extra $5G for the RS, you can get the TS and spend the money you saved on exhaust, headers, rims, stereo, tint, CAI, pulleys, suspension, swaybars, clutch and flywheel, and end up with a faster car for the same price.

note: i think you can get a TS sedan for about $1000 under MSRP, but don't quote me on that.

also the interior color is different and you get different seats. the rs seats are actually 2002-03 wrx seats which holds you nice and tight. while the ts seats are abit bigger. also there are no fog lights, spoiler as mentioned. i beleive the ts has a sport suspension probably similar or the same as the rs.

mazda 3 gt is a real nice car. flawless tranny and some good power. nice interior to. i think the 3 would spank the ts unless is a snowy day. depending on where you live and what the conditions are you should take that into account.

I think the TS AWD is slightly different then the RS one too

it's not as 'sophisticated' as they said from the website

Wah? How is that possible?
Did they remove the center diff or something?

I'm in the same boat.
I'd like to note one thing, though. The Mazda 3 GT sedan has a small trunk opening. I barely fit my guitar into a Subaru Impreza trunk, but when I looked at the Mazda 3 GT sedan's trunk opening, it seemed rather small. The Mazda trunk itself is quite spacious, though.

I checked out both cars on the website and there seems to be no difference between the two as to drive train or suspension. Althought some people have told me that the RS has a stiffer suspension. On the subaru site, both cars have the same weight.
Is this true?

This is info for MY2002 invoice prices from one source, so the info is definetely old, but you can speculate as much as you want by doing all of your ratio calculations against MSRP to come up with a magic number.

MY2002
TS = $20,605
RS = $24,675

I think 1000 off MSRP should be fair.
Given that we're gonna pay that much to cover freight, PDI, air tax, blah blah blah.

With the new TS sedan in the lineup, it'll make things a bit more confusing...

Cuz... the TS is LIKE the RS... but... different?

I think you mean rear Limited Slip Diff

all AWD/4WD cars have a rear differential, unless it's locked all the time and thus is not a DIFFERENTial

Wrong and wrong.

All sedans have the same track... maybe with the exception of the Yugo.

The '02-'03 RS doesn't have a LSD in the rear, if that's what you're wondering. I'm not sure about '04, but I doubt it.

I also doubt that the RS have a stiffer suspension. There's a thread somewhere on the '02 RS/TS/n00b spring rates, and it's virtually identical.

The '02 TS have slightly taller gearing than the RS, IIRC. Again, I have no clue about the '04. Go search around and find out for yourself. Maybe this is the difference that the salesperson is referring to.

Also, there isn't much (if any) in the RS to make it heavier than the TS. It's not like it's hanging a turbo and IC off the front end or something...

edit- Whoa! Yugo? Might as well...
