Angry SCC rant

How in the world could a great "car" mag like SCC, that promotes compact cars, had published many articles about Suzie soccer mom driving those DAMN suv, and the danger they impose, get a damn yellow Nissan POS for there promo vehicle. I dont care if it can haul the world, They took the bait that those companys put out there. SAD

Not to mention the Nissan SUVs are pretty small compared to others... At least get an Isuzu, it's a dedicated truck company... But better than any SUV would be a customized van. They are both cheap and can haul 2x even the biggest SUVs.

Isuzu a dedicated truck company? I thought that was an advertising angle for Americans. I can't imagine they don't make cars for Asia.

SCC isn't all that bad, but these days all I'm reading with interest are the Subaru articles.

Three weeks and countig since I got my RS and around Chicago I have seen 1 RS (driver didn't seem to see me) and three Honda Insights (which I have never seen before in my life).

Nissan makes one of the best real SUVs (great off-road capabilities)- the Patrol. Unfortunately it is not sold in the US. I've driven it in Africa and I can tell you in off-road capabilities it is right up there with the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Land-Rover.

Also its turbo-diesel engine is just awesome.

I was referring to the Y60 Patrol, such as this one: www.scoot.co.uk/ne_automotives/038.HTM

Every try carrying 50 yellow cones, five boxes of promo magazines, 3 peoples' worth of photo equipment, a jack, four jackstands, an extra set of race rubber, clothing, and two roving journlists in a sport compact car?

At least the SUV has a stick. Truly a love/hate relationship. We hate it but we love to beat the hell out it

Anyone else find it ironic that SCC bashes all these companies for putting out SUVs and then buys one from the company it bashes the most?

They hate Nissan for switching focus but they buy the SUV. Hmm...

I still subscribe though.

Why do they need an SUV? They should have a mini-van or a full size van. That can cary more stuff than the SUV. The only reason for and SUV is if you HAVE to go off roading... I don't think the workers of SCC NEED to go off roading... Hypocrites...

paisan - You never know, they might have the SUV following an Impreza out in the dirt... and then get it stuck and have to have the Impreza pull it out.

You guys would be bashing on SCC a whole lot less if they had gotten a Forester instead, wouldn't you?

paisan-- you don't think the workers at SCC need to go off-roading? Oh boy. That silly SUV gets more off road abuse than you could imagine.

Why do they NEED to go off roading? Do the acuras and the hondas go off roading that they follow? They may take it off-roading, but they certainly don't NEED to go offroading.

Now if you told me they tow 5000lb car trailers, I'd say that it's somewhat vaiable.

-mike

PS: a forester would be an even worse choice...

Wahh.
Gee, If SCC actually has to haul stuff around, then why not get an SUV? Why not a van? Is there a possible need for an SUV? Can a van follow shiv's car offroad?

The problem is not SUV's over minivans. The problem is that people drive an SUV or a Minivan when they are the only person in the car, with no cargo!

I hate SUV's as much as the next guy, but if you need one, what are you going to do? Take 3 sports cars? Uhh, and I bet that SUV gets better gas milage than an RX7, eh shiv? (Not Really...but hey)

evo used a Forester as their support vehicle for quite a while. They even had it shipped off to Prodive for some mild upgrades and included it in their long term fleet. They seemed to like it quite a bit.

Huh, I wonder if these guys realise your affiliation, Shiv?

Why Does everyone care if SCC has an SUV as a promo vehicle anyways? At least its a Japanese SUV, and not an Excursion.

Leave SCC alone. That's my favorite magazine. (Forgot how to add smiley)

I bet that new Lexus SUV or the AMG Mercedes SUV that's out will blow the doors off all of your 2.5RSs. BTW: At the International Rally in Nevada, Rod Millen in the Lexus RX300 (stock) beat out all the other rally cars except for a Lancer Evolution VI. Now that is truly Sports Utility. I didn't see a Subaru anywhere in the top 10.

Don't forget also, that SCC's numerous "project Imprezas" throughout the years helped spark Subaru's interest in releasing a turbo Impreza in the States! Subaru even brings SCC's newest Project Impreza with them for display at car shows! And it's damn nice, SCC knows what they're doing

What the HELL is up with all the anti-suv crap here? People who bash SUV's as being useless poser cars that get ****ty gasmilage also prop up such wonders of economy and utility as the Corvette. I am quite sure My parent's explorer's get better gasmilage than most vette's. ALSO I see suv's with multiple people far more often than vette's with multiple people.

I would not say anything bad even if SCC did get an Excursion. Its NOT sold as a vehicle to run around town, its sold to people who want a NICE vehicle that has the room of a full size van, which is impossible to find IN a full size van. Think how much better the Excursion is at towing trailers and hauling equipment than any of the SCC project cars, then tell me its not a usefull vehicle. If SCC used it as a race car and wsa ricing it out that would be one thing, but as a company vheicle for the support of thier operations ANY SUV can be a benifit.

Also what is wrong wioth the Forester? You hate Impreza's for some reason? So it's ride is tuned for 0% handling 100% ride? Its wieghs the same as a 2.5RS and happens to have the same engine. Just pop on a good suspention and you are going to have a square impreza wagon.

What did I see pull up into my yard today? A brand new Lincoln Navigator. The paper tags were still on it. What was behind the Navigator? A two horse trailer with two warmbloods in it.

The minimum sized truck I would recommend for such a heavy load would be a 2500. A 1500 could do it, but you would wear it out fairly quickly.

Finally, here, I could see the need for a SUV. The animals are boarded at another farm, so a pick-up truck really isn't the answer. Here is a family hauler with ability to pull a horse trailer - which it does a minimum of a twice a week.

So, in this situation I can see the land yacht fulfilling a need. However, that wont keep me from mercilessly harassing the owner. This weekend I'll buy her a captain's cap to wear while navigating her beast around.

Oh, my other car... a 3500, four door, long bed, dually with a 7.4 liter motor in it. It only moves when it has too. I can't afford to feed it gas. Ten miles to the gallon... yuck!
