in canada standard powertrain is only 3 years (i forget the mileage).

i am worried they will deny warranty because i do the service by myself and do not take it to them.

i checked it again last night... the bottom of the oil pump is wet wet with oil, but not enough to be dripping excessively into the undertray.

Ben, the Warranty in Canada is 3 years 60Kbumper to bumper and 5 years 100k power train. BTW this is kilometres not miles.

They cannot deny warranty coverage just because you do your own servicing, I do my own and what I do is buy the oil filter from Subaru that way you have proof that you are actually servicing the thing I also keep my receipts for the oil I bought with the date on it.

The onus is on them to actually prove something you did caused the problem, in the case of a leaking oil pump well it would be pretty hard to blame it on you.

No, they cannot deny a warranty claim just because you do not service your car @ the dealer.

I just bought a 04' forester from specialty 2months ago, and i specifically asked the question whether or not they will deny warranty claims if the car is not serviced by authorized dealers. And the sales specifically asked the manager, and he said that as long as you have records of the car's services, whether its by yourself or at other places, warranty is still valid. So keep your receipts, and records of when service has been done.

Also, my last car, a 02' Acura RSX-S, had it for 2 yrs, and only serviced it myself. Had a few warranty claims, and i had all receipts and records, and the car was modified, they tried to deny my claim, but i had all proof, so they couldn't do **** about it. =)

Also Ben, have you tried wiping the oil off the bottom, and let it sit overnight and check again to see if it gets wet? Also, are you noticing this after your oil change?

this is the second oil change for this car. we're doing the 6 month interval (12k kms). it wasn't there at the last oil change, only this noticed it this time around.

Ben, thats a hell of a long service interval, most cars that I know of in Canada are required to follow the severe service maintenance schedule, and thats a lot less than 12,000Kilos.

You need to check this because if you should be following the severe service and are not they could nail you for this.
