I want one but no way it will be below 25-26k. A 2001 Jetta with 150 horse 1.8t is 23,275, Subaru has had too much success where the wrx has already been sold to "test" the market this car will definitely be high 20's anybody have any input? If you can't afford a type-r you can't afford a wrx.

Is everybody going to wheel and deal with them on the wrx? I think not.Don't get me wrong I like the wrx but pushing 30k I will go with the redesigned 2003 A4 quattro and drive in luxury and be able to modify till hearts content. Audi is a rally car company too lets not forget but how many people are actually going to do this with their wrx?

I'm sure you joined a Subaru message board to bash Subarus. No, really. The Audi is a completely different class of car with completely different priorities. Where is your proof of cost for te WRX? try reading a few other posts about people who actually have deposits on these cars before you go making a fool of yourself. And if you have nothing better to do than speculate and flame, go somewhere else. No one wants you here, and no one is keeping you here.

You cannot compare Audi to Subaru. End of Story. Just what you need a rally car: luxury. Gotta have those heated leather seats for those long treks during the WRC. Psuedo-rally is more like it. Production Audi's are not equipped for rallying like the Impreza. I haven't exactly heard flattering things about Audi's quattro system.

Ya know, Audi is liscencing a lot of thier AWD tech from Subaru, if I remember right. True, they don't have a long ralley history like Suby, but they do do it, and they are nice cars. And what's wrong with a little luxury? And finding a WRX for under the base will be difficult at first, since the demand will make the wheeling-and-dealing nearly impossible. Remember when the Miata came out? Pre-purchasing or waiting will be the only ways you'll be able to get a lower price, IMHO. Peace.

Theres going to be plunty of WRX's around 6 months after release... Unless they make such a big hype that everyone all of a sudden everyone in the U.S. thinks Subaru = REAL Performance
(ya right)Im thinking the base might be lower than everyone expects... Jap model = $21k US on the exchange rate. US model has lesser wheels, lesser seats, less HP, no side markers, spoilers not standard... Come on guys, its an old design engine with a better chassis and slightly improved interior... Theres no way its going to push $25k! Even with Tarrifs, export fees, etc. Im starting to think sub-$23k... Your not getting all that extra crap like you get on a Jetta though, like windows that roll down with the lock, fancy interior lighting, plush leather interiors, and all those other "amnimities" (sp?) that German cars have... Too bad I cant get one Ill just get a 2002 RS or TS Wagon while everyones fussing over the WRX's (= Bargain ) |

The WRX is coming to the US? No way!
By the way you can still get a used VersionV Evo at the wholesalers here in Japan for around $18K. I'm still holding out for a change in the law that allows Grey Imports. |

Yeah N/A, I heard that rumor too that the WRX is coming here. It's even gone as far as reputable car magazines and even dealers saying we're getting them.

Audi's Quattro system is probably one of the best AWD systems out there. They use Torsen diffs, which are probably what you would upgrade your Subaru to if you were upgrading. And Audi definitely has a deeper rally heritage than Subaru. I dont recall any Group B Subarus. Granted there isnt any Audi WRC team now, but you've gotta get your facts straight ace.

Subaru has more heritage (3 times Vs. 2) and it doesn't go all the way back to the 80's, it's with the Impreza we all know and love!
The Audi's system is inferior and in tests in Top gear, and Autocar it proved to be less capable the the Scoob's. in Top gear the A6 2.8 quattro lost traction on a wet road before it's RWD & FWD rivals (B.M.W, Lexus, Jaguar and Alfa 166) much to the amazement of the staff and to the disgrace of us AWD lovers. in "Car" magazine both the A8 and the A4 Avant where critisized that their AWD was too intrusive, and the latest version of AWD from VW(also featured in the TT and S3), in an Autocar comparison with the new WRX, they said the Impreza's AWD was better, escpecially off the line. So with all the EDL, torsen bulls**t the Audi just can't provide the same level of performance the Subaru's AWD can. |

Do you understand, there are no Audis racing in the FIA Rally championships!
The only VW group contender is the Seat Cordoba, which we won't see next year due to the lack of success. If you drive heritage every day, buy the Audi if you want a good car stop at your Subaru dealer! And I don't see any Audi N group cars (like the WRX STI), while the first 2 chapionships where won with a "regular" Impreza! I hope Subaru would next bring the STI, Legacy RSK, plant the H-6 in the Legacy GT and maybe then you will see how much better the Subarus are!(not just performance wise) but then again even the WRX kicks the S4's as* in every corner. |

That's great. So there's no Audi in FIA WRC. Im very well aware of this thanx. But guess what? there's no Subaru in BTCC or TOCA. And Audi has obviously cleaned up in those 2 racing circuits. So what's your point?
Do you really think that Subarus have better build quality than Audis? Come on now. I only bought my Impreza over an A4 because of the price. I couldnt afford the extra $5K. Have you even sat in and/or driven a new Audi? It's a far cry from the Civic-esque interior in my Impreza. |

BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND:
![]() i think that the base line new impreza's will be around the same price as they are today, but i think the turbo versions will hover around the 25k range if you want an honest opinion. see, that's not so hard |

How about the point of view from someone who has owned both Audi's and Subaru's. Subaru's racing sucess is very recent, and only in Rallying. Audi place 1,2,3 at Le Mans, and has had growing sucess in racing since the early 80's. Are you aware that TOCA banned Quattro from the league and deemed it an "unfair advantage." That's the same Quattro on the non-race spec A4s. Don't get me wrong, I love my subaru, but I still miss my Audi.

Excellent points Kachukaa. Glad to see someone else can see this from more than one point of view. Some people on this board think that Subarus are just the be all-end all, ultimate automobile and that nothing else is worthy of anybodies money.

I was watching Fox Sports Net and they had part of the Speedvision Cup, the Las Vegas GT, on but an S4 won beating our Archers Viper, Many porsches, Vettes, and M3's. It was Michael Galati Audi S4
I know that the Subie doens't have the power yet, but it makes me wonder if there'll be any Subies next year or the year after. Audi has a better reputation in Rallying, especially many years ago when they were, umm, banned?, because of the tecnological advantages they had. --KC |

A quick dose of reality:
1. The list price of the 2001 RS is only $19.5K. 2. One of the reasons that the A4 is over $5K more expensive is because they spend more on the interior - not the performance. 3. People don't buy Subaru's for the quality of the interior, we buy Subaru's because of the quality of the mechanical components, the overall reliability, and the performance. 4. The 2001 S4 has a list price of $38.9K - the comparibly equipped (from a performance standpoint) WRX will be about $15K less expensive. 5. There is no way that Subaru is going to charge a $10K + markup for the WRX. The base model Impreza has a list around $16K. Up until now, the RS was the performance version of the Impreza, with a sport suspension, larger wheels & tires, a larger engine..... - and Subaru only charged $3K for the RS upgrade. The WRX will be well under $25K |
