Default LRP CART event on June 24th

Anyone going to this event? I got the registration forms in the mail this weekend and I am pretty sure I'm going to go. It is $230 for the whole day. Morning is group practice sessions and then from then on is open track. At about 2 it is the timed sessions and then awards at 5pm.

Should be a fun day but I think it is going to fill up fast. I talked to the guy running the event and he said it is about 40% full already.

I'm hoping to do one of the Pocono's events. Cheaper and I've never been there. I like the idea of their new open track setup.

Yeah I like that set up too. I want to do both but can't justify spending all that money. Lime Rock is 20 min from my house so that is just easier. I would end up spending that much money in food and transportation to get down there.

I've got 30+ hours at LRP, time for another track. I think Pocono's is a pretty easy day trip from CT? Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the track format after you attend.

LRP is a great track (will be there this time next week for opening day), but CART is kinda crazy to run with for a first event. I dont recomend them if you have never done a track event before. Plus, for like $5 more, you can run with a group that highers professional flaggers.

CART got rid of the paid flaggers? I've never worked a corner at any of their events.

Ru fan,

Why do you not recommednd CART for a first event? Are the drivers really that bad? What other events do you think I should run instead?

Thanks,
Jason

Unless something has changed in the last couple seasons, CART offers very little in the way of instruction, so I would also stay away from them unless you're comfortable driving at tracks. My wife did her first event with CART and was given about 5 laps of instruction, then set loose in the beginner group. Later in the day she did a very impressive spin off the left hander, which would not have happened with more instruction.

This would be my first track event. I have raced karts before and done a few autocrosses. Maybe I should reconsider and run with a different club. The way I was looking at it was i gotta get out there sometime though.

The CART event I attended had no real instructors, poor flagging, and quite a bit of racing going on out on the track. I did get tons of seat time, but I would consider the event more geared to racers with lots of experience. I really had to take care of myself out on the track. If it is your first time, try the BMW club, Audi, etc. These tend to be much tamer, with much stricter passing, distance between cars, etc. In my opinion, the next step up from these clubs, are groups like SCDA, and COM. They allow more freedom for drivers out on the track, but they still watch for dangerous behavior. Very well organized, and safe. I like being able to pull up in the rear view of a WRX, Porsche, etc., to let them know that I am back there, and they gotta get out of the way!
