Default Race Tracks near Philadelphia?

I saw a similar thread, but its from 2007. Are there any good twisty tracks near Philadelphia? I am west of Philly, so DE is an option.

What does it typically cost to spend a day at the track?

Thanks

There aren't any circuit tracks that I am aware of (I could be wrong). There are a few drag strips in eastern PA however. I think the closest circuit tracks to us would be: Monticello Raceway in NY, Lime Rock Park in CT, or VIR in VA.

Doesn't NJ have a couple SCAA tracks?

Pocono, Summit Point

Aside from SCCA and NASA check EMRA, they run really good events at pretty reasonable prices. Like $300-ish for a weekend. There's also NARRA, but they're pretty serious. Porsche and BMW clubs usually put on good events too.

Try this thread, which has links to various tracks in the Mid Atlantic and also links to events at said tracks in 2014.

It varies depending on the club organizing the event, the track, the time of year and time of week, etc. Plan on $350-400ish for a 2-day event. And that's just the registration fees - plan on a hundreds more for hotel room, gas, consumables, etc.

Yes. The ones you listed are possibilities, but there are closer options.

Those of us coming from the south have to go up and over the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays to get there, but you've got an easy, straight shot down from Philly.

In another year or two you might have another close option at Liberty Bell Motorsports Park in Douglassville. They're still working through the permitting process.

NJMP is a good track for your first time, with good visibility and decent runoff, as well as being probably being the closest track, depending on exactly where where you are.

As for cost, I think most places are charging $250-300 for a single day at NJMP, with some discounts for doing a full 2- or 3-day event. Also, the price can vary a bit with each track, not just each club. So, comparing one place's price to run Jefferson at Summit Point (dirt cheap) to another club's NJMP price is not a valid indication of the club's pricing. Also, weekdays are much cheaper than weekends, and whichever you prefer to run will affect your available club choice as well. The other thing that heavily affects pricing is instruction, and how much of it you get (both in-car and classroom). Most of the cheaper clubs offer less instruction, but the same goes for some of the bigger clubs, too.

Have you been to other tracks before? I'm planning to go to NJMP for the first time this spring (never been on any track). I don't know the answer to your question but there's no way I would even consider going without instruction (I'm probably looking for whatever gets me the most instruction).

Nope I'm new to this. Actually looking to get a different car for the track but that doesn't matter.

Is there some reason you'd want to be on track alone without instruction? You WANT an instructor in the car with you. You'll learn so much more, and gain speed much quicker.

NJMP has 2 road courses. Poconos has several track days per year. Englishtown also has track days on their road course.
