Default question for Utah ppl

next fall i might be going to the university of utah (havnt heard back from them yet). i was considering getting a catless exaust system, since there's no smog checks here. but i was wondering if they had smog checks in utah, or more specifically salt lake city.

Thanks

yes they do but there are people that will pass you anyway. It is pretty easy to pass if you have one cat after the turbo since they can't put it on a dyno. I would recommened a exhaust system that can have cat pipe and a test pipe. Like the turboXS piece. wait i have a turboXS stealth back that i need to sell what a coincidence haha.

Nevermind you have a 2.5 RS

you should be ok with catless... i passed last year with just the third stock cat (now gone), but i don't think they even sniffed the tailpipe. i think they just plug in an ODBII scanner and check for codes, since the stock system should throw a CEL if yer cats aren't working... but a simple flash-job or CEL-eliminator will always take care of that.

If you can afford the couple extra bucks to have just a high-flow cat, i'd recommend that over catless though, i'm just a cheapass so went with catless. It just saves you from having to worry about it, and also keeps yer exhaust from smelling... mine smells a little, but with no cats, that's what I expect.

yeah, with my exaust system i think it's Header->cat->mid-pipe->muffler

so pretty much as long as i have a high flow cat there i should be ok?

I would think you'll be ok.

You can always just take it in for emissions, and if they don't pass you, start asking around for another place that might... or find someone with stock exhaust parts laying around and borrow 'em for emissions. but i think you'll be ok.

Hey Alpha_32...
Did you know/hang out with Alan Card (2.2L turbo GC8) when he lived in Florida?

I passed last year with a TXS stealthback running the hi-flow cat. They sniffed the tailpipe, I watched them... I didn't realize they even had the OBD-II caapability yet in Utah.
