Post Motorweek Video

Whatever happened to the deal where somone was going to get the 22B & RS
video directly from Motorweek and professionally duplicate it. I remember 40 or 50 people saying they wanted a copy.

OK I was at work and found a satellite that was broadcasting some UK show called Top Gear. This thing was alot better then Motorweek. These guys would actually drive these cars like they were meant to be driven. the best part was seeing them throw a Audi wagon into a 360 spin and pull it out at the end and keep going. They even should some past cars, how they held up and the cost of them to purchase now. All in all it was a good show. It could be longer and lose the one announcer. I would like to see them put the 22B and the RX through its paces. Too bad I can only watch it while at work.

That was me. MPT (Motorweek's owners) said I couldn't do it for copyright reasons, and it was going to be too much of a hassle anyway. I still have the tapes and if anyone has any good ideas, please let me know.

Thanks Robert, too bad. We don't get Motorweek in our area so I never got a chance to see them.

Robert,
Put them in condensed .asf format, and then post them on the website. For educational purposes only, copyright motorweek @1999 blah, blah, blah. That should get around all the BS.

Technically you can't get around all that BS. Even if it is used for educational purposes only or you say exactly where it came from and give all credit. Fact is, it isn't on a broadcasted channel (ie: something you can pick up with a normal antennae), it is on a channel you have to purchase. Technically you have to read all the legalities behind those seperate channels before you can explore what you can and cannot do according to law. I guarantee you that the DMCA has extended that further and now anyone who has recorded a show off TV should be charged with piracy (this sentence meant as sarcasm towards the RIAA, etc).

Personally, I am not against electronic piracy in any sense. I believe that it actually promotes more then harms.

Oh yeah... LEGALLY you can't do it because of copyright reasons. Personally, I hate that copyright crap and the DMCA should be destroyed. If you see it on the airwaves, why can't you put it on tape for further viewing (and legally, you're not supposed to either)... I mean, are they going to charge you with copyright infringment if you have photographic memory and just close your eyes and view the whole thing again? In their opinion, they should be able to.

In this day and age copyrights and legalities behind shows on TV and movies have gone just TOO far. I remember the good old days when my Aunt and Uncle ran a video store and a side part of their buisness was selling bootleg copies of the videos, which is coincidentally how my family got our very first copy of Blues Brothers.

Ack, enough ranting... Sorry about the tangent.

Oh, a bunch of people have digitized the segment and put it online. Efoo did I know. Once I get my capture card, I plan to do a very nice MPG version of it, as I was a bit let down in the .asf files (can't fast forward to the two shots I'm in!)
