Default did my insurance company screw me

few months ago i got involved in a hit and run. i was driving on the highway and some car merged onto the highway without stoping at the stop sign. so he hit me and took off. now with all this happening i didnt get to see his liscence plate cuz i was tryin to keep from hittin the divider . so i got the report sayin it was ahit and run and my insurance went up . is that whats supposed to happen. i though a hit and run is automatically the other guys fault or a no fault for me . can i get some input on this, thanks

Because it was a hit and run, the insurance company had to pay for it since you weren't able to get the other guy's information. Some insurance companies won't increase your rates, but others will. They see you as a higher risk now. Sucks. . .but that's what happens. I was in a 5 car pileup a few years ago and even though I was at a full stop and got rear-ended, my insurance company still dropped me as they saw me as a higher risk.

AIG = American Insurance Group

Your accident is 50% your fault, so if your company paid $500 or more, then it's chargeable as 5 insurance points, which would raise your rates at renewal. Even if the other guy had not left the scene of the accident, it would be viewed as a 50/50 fault accident, because 99.9% of accidents occuring at a controlled merge location are viewed as such.

so i get 50% fault for driving down a highway and getting hit by a car that ran a STOP sign. i hate this state, i hate insurance companies, and i hate people that run stop signs.

Was there a stop sign or a merge sign? My explanation applies to a merge, which is usually what's present when entering a road from a ramp or other road.

Yeah, living in NJ kinda sucks because of that. The insurance companies are always losing money in the NJ market, so they have to make it back somehow.

Dude, whereabouts in Clark are you located? I am just off of Raritan Rd, up by the GSP.
