I have a Subaru Leone 1.8 FWD -87
I have a little problem with this car, when the engine is cold it runs good, but when it has been runnig for 3-4 min, and gets some heat then it stops, And it gets no ignition and the fuel pump stops to, When I take off the - cable from the battery for 1 min and puts it back, then it starts up for 20 sec and the fuelpump is running, but then it stops again! Can anyone please help me what can the error be ? Needs all help I can get !! =) // Svorsken

I'm inclined to say a temperature sensor, although I'm not 100% sure about that one.
If the ECU does not like the readings it's getting from that sensor, it does weird stuff with the fuel/timing maps. Maybe someone who's had a similar problem can chime in... |

plug in the D- check connectors (green 2 pin)
and the read memory conectors white single pin connectors and see if the fuel pump cycles. if it does see if the car runs. if it runs check the ignition relay or fuel pump relay they maybe your problem. 22Bkeeper. |

Fuel pump relay is changed, Do u realy think it is the egnition relay when i have had problems before with thatone, it has been booth when the enigine is cold and warm, not like this only when the engine is warm, like this case, it is only when it is over 60C as it gets this problem.. I have now changed the fuel filter, and I have no luck with that, what temprature sensor is it U are thinking about water or engine. ? // Svorsken |

The temperature sensor reads water temp (it's by the T-stat I believe) and the ECU runs the engine based on what temp it reads from that sensor.

I have found to sensors, 1 for the waters it is placed on the big cooler on the front of the car! And I have foung one on the front of the engine reading Oil temperature I think !
The water temp has to work because you can see on the panel how warm the water temp is at the speedometer. So I have changed the otherone. And I have also changed the relay for the Fuelpump still the same problem. Any chanse U have more idéas ? // Svorsken. |

You don't say what fuel system your car has.. is it carbed, SPFI, or turbo?
If its SPFI or turbo, there are 3 temp sensors.. one for the guage, one for the computer and one in the radiator for the fan. once you enlighten us as to you your fuel system, it will be a little easier to help you pinpoint your problem.. one added note.. a bad coil can cause the problem you have described.. when a bad coil heats up, it can cause the car to stop running.. when the signal from the distributor stops, the fuel pump will shut off as well.. a crapped out ignition module will do it too. |
