Is the battery dead?
Also, what eliminator pipe did you get? I'm not sure but that could be where the problem is, but most of them come with a place to screw in the O2 sensor. |

the car doesn't use the O2 sensor on cold start...battery prob is likely. it should start even w/ the sensor unpluged, you'll just get a CEL. if you don't wanna replace the battery yet, do ya got a volt meter to check it?

could be the battery but did you check.
A) your front o2 sensor is pluged in and actually in the header? B) if you did the resistor mod you made sure you put it in the propery plug? |

Did you run out of gas?
The car will still run with the o2 sensor disconnected, and from what I gather this is the rear o2 sensor you left out? That will have no affect. The ECU doesnt look at the rear o2 sensor for anything but monitoring catalytic converter effeciency. it has to be related to something you did. What did you disconnect? Check all your connections and your intercooler hoses. Jay |

Sounds like the battery is drained. Subaru OEM batteries are not that good, get an Optima.

It sounds like one of the metered air (intake) lines got loose or pulled off when you changed your pipes. (turbo hanging on the intake hoses) its somthing simple look it over again. dont worry.

A couple of things-
If the car starts, runs and dies it's not likely to be the battery, especially if it was fine before the work was done. Probably either a huge vacuum/intake leak someplace or not getting fuel for some reason. The battery may have become a factor later on from all the cranking while trying to restart the car. As for battery choices, everyone will have their own opinion on this. I went with an Optima even though the stock battery was still working, because I was unhappy with the cranking performance in winter and didn't think it would last that long. The CCA rating of the OE battery is low to begin with and will only drop as it ages. The cost of the Optima was not all that much greater than a "premium" 60- or 72- month conventional battery, $109 OTC for a 35 Red-Top at the local Pep Boys + another $5 for a longer starter cable. They can now be had in a terminal configuration that just drops in and uses the existing cables, although only online retailers seem to have those. Price is cheaper though. It's true you can buy a cheaper battery and if it fails within the warranty period get a new one for either free or a pro-rated cost, but if it fails at an inconvenient time, as they usually do, it still sucks. I didn't want to need another battery for a long time. The Optima is also zero-maintenance, contains no liquid electrolyte, holds up to temperature extremes better, and even the Red-Top will tolerate a limited number of deep discharges without permanent damage. Anyway, just my opinion, YMMV and all that ![]() |

To check the ECU the best thing to do would be to find someone with a scanner and see if you can connect to the ECU and get data from it. If you can't that's a strong sign it may be bad. If you can the data should help you find the problem.
Also check all your fuses. |

First off spray a shot of starting fluid into the intake when cranking. If it fires its a fuel problem if it don't its a spark problem.
Once you figure that out you can start eliminating possibilites one at time rather than stabbing in the dark or replacing a seemingly fine battery. Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn on the ignition? |

Also did you raise the engine or remove the turbo to install the up pipe? Do you have a ram air or cold air intake or using the stock box? (A backwards MAF causes huge problems - make sure the plug on the MAF is facing forward.) The abscence of the rear O2 will throw a CEL for missing the heater but will not affect the running of the car. I don't know if it will even check for cat efficiency if the ECU can't find the heater load. |
