Default Wiring Boost Gauge: Quick Question.

Im installing a second hand factory boost gauge and coming out of the boost gauge is two wires, one yellow and one black. Can i connect these two wires to two wires of the same color under the steering wheel area or is the color of the wire just coincidental. Does anyone know what these two wires are anyway that are coming out of the boost gauge? Thanks for the help.

Without knowing the make and features of the boost guage itself, I'd venture to guess that yellow is for switched 12v and black is a ground.

The easiest illumination circuit to get to is behind your stereo. It's an orange wire. It will turn on the guage's lights when you turn on your headlights. There is a dimmable circuit too, but it's not so easy to get into.

black wire ->ground
yellow wire ->orange wire behind stereo

Both wires can be tapped into the same (stereo) harness if the guage is going on the dash (pod). It'll only be a short run if you do it this way.

I'm trying to wire up my Oil pressure and EGT gauge so the lights dim & adjust with everything else on the dash but they do the opposite of everything else

I turn the dimmer down the oil/egt go up when everything else is up and on the oil/egt go off.

WHAT A PAIN!

Just checked scoobymods
Its a Subaru thing. I'm going to try one more thing then give up.

You should try making the circuit to reverse the switched ground to a positive illum voltage, here. I'm no electronics genius and I wired it up in a few hours using the illumination circuit behind the stereo head unit (a violet and orange wire plug). I tapped into the +12V from the clock, and grounded it to the black wire in the stereo harness. Worked out nice, and I'm currently working with a guy here where I work to rig up a pot to adjust the brightness to match my dash.

Yes, I found that on Scoobymods late last night. Wish I would have read that first. I spent hours with the Wiring Service manual and a Volt meter trying to tap into the dimmer circuit only to find out it makes the gauge dim backwards. Pain in the butt turned an hour job into about 3 or 4 hours.

I just wired the gauge lights to come on with parking/headlights and if they really bother me I will try that scoobymods deal I can handle soldering that stuff up.

The thing I notice most right away is the gauge pod is close to the dash color but not perfect. Is there something like Duplicolor interior paint with a perfect match?
