Question new oil temp sender for stock gauge pack

I want to get a new oil temp sender and use it with a oil gallery plug adapter but Im not sure if the stock cheapo gauge is compatable with any of the aftermarket senders. Has anyone done this?
Im wondering if maybe the stock and aftermarket senders show different voltages for the same temp. I was originally going to turn down and re-thread my stock sender to fit into the 18x1.5 gallery plug, but wanted to check here first. Thanks

The stock gauge isn't really cheap, it's just small.
I don't think another sensor would be compatible, the resistance vs. temp values are likely to be different.
