Question Do Legacys have auto door lock function?

Hello

As the subject says: Do 2000 Legacys have automatic/security door locks, i.e. the doors lock the first time you brake at more than 10MPH? Can it be installed as part of the keyless entry option or the security option?

The reason I ask is that the doors locked automatically twice in my car, a 2000 Legacy Wagon I bought used a year ago: Once when stopping at a red light, a second time - a few seconds later, I'd unlocked the doors... - when slowing down to go over a curb. Neither I or my girlfriend were anywhere near lock switches the second time, we both made sure of that. Had not happened before, has not since. The car does not (as far as I know) have remote keyless entry or security options installed.

So, has anyone seen this? What could cause it?

Thanks in advance.

Nicolas

Well I have aftermarket alarm installed and it locks doors 10 sec after you start the car.. but that's only because it's not OEM alarm.. stock alarm doesnt do that..

what I'm guessing if it happened.. you have loose ground somewhere and it hit the wire somewhere.. cause alam uses negative (ground) trigger signal.. so if the right wire touches ground it will close the doors.. but it will do all of em at once. The controll box is on the right on the support column below glove box right by passanger right foot on the sidewall.

In my Legacy it automatically locks as soon as I hit the brakes for the first time, and unlocks when I shut the car off. Of course, mine has an automatic starter (I think that also controls the remote entry)

Look in your manual, its a wealth of information

Thanks for the replies...

NiTRoN, all doors locked at once, yes. Are you saying that I would need the remote/alarm module for what you are describing to occur?

sha_zapple, Does you Legacy have factory/OEM keyless entry/auto starter or an aftermarket kit? I know aftermarket kits can do that, but since I have no remote option on the car whatsoever (that I know of...), I am puzzled.

as I recall correctly.. My never locked doors with the OEM alarm installed.. only after I did aftermarket one.. and the only reason I did install aftermarket because I was under impression my was broke but it turned out to be all that time in stupid vallet mode.. so now it got 2 alarms working (yea.. I know.. dumb.. dumb)

My 96 has a relay for it under the passenger side dash that i discovered when pulling the harness. I don't think it ever worked though.

The Dealership told me I did not have keyless entry, yet I can use my auto-start remote to unlock the doors. I think it may be an option of the auto start, since its also tapped into the lights (they flash when lock/unlock)

my DEI remote start does the lock thing when the key is turned to ignition. Also unlocks when the car is turned off.

All right, starting to get a feeling I'll have to take the dash apart and look for a remote starter I was not told about...

Thanks all for your help.
