Sounds good. I'll post a link to this thread on the Cobb and ClubWRX forums. Lets see if we can get more coverage and find some new folks to show up.

Because all the previous meets the last 2 years have been in Salt Lake or Park City. There are many guys from Layton, Ogden and Provo/Orem as well that would like to attend these things. Plus, if you read the thread from the meet yesterday, police continue to be a problem in SLC. If you're not willing to drive to Layton because the meet isn't a 1/2 mile from your house, then don't go this time dude. I don't know what else to tell ya.

It doesn't really say why the police stopped by. Someone mentions they were looking for Drew. What happened that might have provoked the police that they felt this intervention was needed? Was he hauling ass or what?

Glad to see there were no real troubles though.

Yeah, I wasnt there yesterday so I do not know. In the past, there has been police intervention a few times at BCC and LCC. Last fall they gave us a police escort on the way up, which was nice. Anyhow, I don't even disagree with them for those 2 canyons. There are many people up there for recreation and I am not an advocate of driving like a maniac up a crowded canyon... and it's even worse with the resorts still open.

They stopped because 8-10 Suburu's were doing triple digit speeds and passing cars 5 and 6 at a time down a very busy and congested canyon. The SLC canyons are too crowded. I think it is safer to go to the outlying area's. Besides everyone who made the Wolfcreek pass run had a great time. Me and Drew led on the way down that is why they were asking about a Blue Subaru. I just think we have overstayed our welcome in SLC. They will be looking for and waiting for us from now on. All it is going to take is one of us getting arrested and cars impounded to take some of the fun out of it. I think that we can drive faster and have more fun North-South-East-West of SLC. Then next month I think we should go down in the Provo area there are some great drives down there. I am going to see if I can get one of my cop friends to come along and help out with enforcement a little. I also think it is not such a bad adea to have a short driving clinic as we are hitting some pretty high speeds. What does everyone think???

I'll be at the auto-x at the e-center but will definitely try to come find you dudes afterwards. Usually the auto-x runs into mid-afternoon and it all depends on how many drivers show up and how many runs we get. But i'll come find you guys and if the food's already happened, i'll do a solo canyon run until i find you.

I'll be up for trying to meet up with you guys, especially if it ends up a Layton-area thing. That's only a 25+ minute drive from downtown SLC, and a good fun drive that moab355 mentioned. Probably takes just a little longer to get to Layton than it does to get to BCC from downtown SLC.

I also like the idea of moving the meets around. Not only good for us, but I'd like the idea of the whole wasatch front knowing there's a community of subie enthusiasts.

I'm all about the Provo/Southern meets. I can handle driving to SLC, but Davis county is pretty far north. I agree with getting out of SLC, the fuzz is going to be intense now.

I also like the driving clinic idea, most of us could use some pointers, and on some empty roads with a few people making sure they are clear we can really drive hard. When I learned to drive rally cars we would have a couple people with walkie talkies standing in various areas to assure that the road was always clear. If we do that, we can drive full out. Like matthew said, there are some solid roads down south, especially around the lake, and heading to the dunes. Alot of the roads are twisty, and flat, which is nice.

I think we should get together, with walkie talkies and set up a "road course" that we can really drive on.

I think that is a good idea. I have some handheld 2 way radio's we could use. And if we go in the middle of no-where even the cops will let us slide a little(or in my case alot). By the way I took my car to Larry Miller Subaru today and they said I need new brakes and tires. Thank you very much they are covering brakes under warranty but tires I am on my own. The road we are going to take on sunday will be a blast.

Personally guys it is not the cops that are the problems, it is some of the WRX drivers that are on these trips. A couple of you who were at the Cottonwood drive were being a little too sprinty. Yes you guys have fast cars, we all do, but you need to slow down and obey the speed limits and not pass people. This isn't a race and some of you guys (you know who you are) really pushed the limit in canyon on Sunday. When there are literally thousands of people in that canyon, plus several hundred drivers on any three or four mile stretch, it is just not appropriate to be hauling ass and passing people. It is dangerous and very discourtious.

I don't think the police would have had any problem with us if we had stayed at the speed limit. This is also a good reason why there have been wrecks and damage to cars. Slow down, be safe and enjoy your car and the company of other WRX enthusiasts.

This is also another reason why last time it was mentioned that we go somewhere, park our cars and have a BBQ. Don't drive at all. Let us just meet, talk shop, show off what we've done or what we want to do, have a burger and enjoy each other's company. No tickets, no hassle from cops, no reckless driving and no speeding.

I travel sometimes with the Corvette club. They never have problems with the police. Of course I'm one of the older members here, I just turned 36. Most of the vette guys are in their 40's and 50's, so we have way mellowed out and slowed the heck down.

Cheers guys, let's do it again but let's be safer.

That is why I want to meet at 2 and leave at 3. I think that we should set a theoretical top speed of redline in 6th gear. I only passed about 35 or 40 cars coming down the canyon. I dont think most people attend these to go the speed limit. Was there some poor choices on passing yes there was. The nice thing about Trappers Loop is that it is 4 lanes almost all the way. So there is always a passing lane that will help it is also more wide open. Hopefully no-one will do anything to crazy. Lets keep it fun but be safe. I am glad the vette guys just cruise the speed limit but that is not for me I dont particularly find that fun. I like corners and I like some speed to go with it.

While I'm sure he is just being silly, some of this is actually true. This is why I haven't attended a drive for quite some time. I like more to meet and enjoy the company of other enthusiasts rather than race as fast as we can up a canyon.

Ah well to each his own.

I'd be down for a BBQ and just a GTG. If people are willing to drive to Draper, I'll offer up my pool so we can have Subaru GTG. I drive with the S2000 guys a lot, and while driving triple digits passing people is fun and all, it is dangerous. I will drive with you guys again for sure, but the S2K guys drive fast, but we never pass people unless there is enough room for everyone to get by in one try. It's not every man for himself. Also, I think East Canyon is a good drive, would be fun to drive that, then go out on the lake.

Now hold on here, lets not make it out like there is always a band of lunatics on every drive. That's just not fair. There are plenty of folks who aren't passing 5 cars and doing the triple digits in crowded areas the entire time. This is why you find me at the back of the pack usually... unless we are in a remote area with little to no traffic like the Wolf Creek pass run. I push the car when I feel safe doing it, otherwise I don't. I am all for having a good time driving the car I've put so much $ into, however I personally am not going to put myself or even worse, others, in danger. There are some people who are more brave than others on these drives and you know what? It's really not my place to be judgemental or tell anyone what they should do with their own car. I'm all for hanging out and having a BBQ sometime, but lets face it: the majority of people that show up to these things want to actually drive the car. Otherwise whats the point? I could take a bus to your house dude, who cares if I bring the car then... Anyway, thats my $.02. I could have bought a Geo Metro if I just wanted to commute.

I'll Drive with you Matt. I'm down I'll be at the meet and so will everyone else. We are lucking no one has ever got hurt driving we have a good record on every one being ok. I rolled my car for god sake and I'm fine with the way other people drive. From what I've seen matt makes some good choices when passing cars. every one drives different and I say we keep these going this isnt the first time the cops have given us **** and as long as I'm around it will not be the last time we have a little talk with the cops. THE END
