Exclamation MY98 RS alarm poll

Hi everyone.

The alarm in my 98rs doesn't chirp when the body of the car is nudged. hell i can bang on it and nothing happens.
Am i the only one with an alarm that doesnt chirp/warn when hit?

Thanks in advance,
g0

PS, in case you wonder why i care:
In the spring my car was broken into, at about 2am in the rain. The passenger window was pryed from the top, and the bottom was broken. The window
was resting nicely on my rear tire (i have tint so it was intact).
They took my PalmPilot, StarTac phone w/handsfree kit, cash, and about $200 of tools that were in my bookbag. All together with window repair costs-
over a grand.
...Yes, the factory alarm WAS on.
I had my vallet key in the glove box, they tried to start the car with it! FINALLY the alarm when off. I saw the key was in the ignition, turned to "on"
position (alarm sounds when alarm is on and you attempt to start the car).
So... they pry the window, mess around in my compartments, climb in the back seat to get my bag, and attempt to drive off with my car. All that time the
motion sensor didnt do a thing. No alarm chirp/warning. Nothing! I wasn't even parked on a hill. Well, you can assume I wasnt happy.
A friend showed me how to adjust the gain on the motion sensor. It was all the way off! It angers me to think that this could all have been avoided. Who is
installing these things?! The spring mechanism in it doesnt work well either.

Really sorry about the theft.

I agree the "Factory Setting" was too low for me too. I have the directions on how to adjust the shock sensor on this page scanned in:
http://www.azscooby.freeservers.com/

or check here too:
http://www.imprezawrx.org/

It's worth messing I think.

Mine was actually too sensitive. It would never chirp but would instead just go off from just a little tap. I almost had my car towed becasue of that!! People complained and so 'legally' they could tow a car because of that! Unbelievable

Guilio,

I am with you on the stock alarm system - it is just about worthless - other than opening yout driver's door. Maybe you want to think about getting an aftermarket system and lose the junk from SOA - I know that it little help with the other costs that you have incured from this little episode...

I had a theft a few years ago (pre RS) and it just sucks. I mean, you spend all that time getting all of these things (I also lost my tools - five years getting that box just right) and some degenerate nabs them, then probably throws them away within a week. I am with you on the whole anger/frustration thing.

After my theft, I never leave anything in the car that can not be replaced, and all of the cool things are on my person in my bag - now I'm gonna get mugged and lose everything in there, I know. You can't win...

Feeling a little overwhelmed today...

It seems everyone else's alarm has the functionality of chirping when their car is bumped. but mine doesnt. I was looking to see if other my98 have the same problem. If so then there is nothing i can do. if not, then i think soa owes me an alarm.

Giulio:

If your motion sensor mounted to a rigid location then it will be less sensitive. Instead of a rigid location, the motion sensor should be zip-tied to a medium-sized wire harness bundle in order to maximize it's vibration pickup.
