It depends.

If the Impreza 2.5RS gains in popularity, then we'll see more engine mods. It's still being produced, after all.

If the WRX dominated the 2.5RS, then we'll see jack squat.

If they both crash, well, we're screwed.

I think they will benefit each other. They will certainly share suspension components, interior bits, probably lots of exterior bits.. leaving probably the drivetrain as the primary difference.

A good way to think about it is to look at a product line like the Camaro. There are the 3800's, the Z28 and the SS.

The biggest sellers are the base cars, but most of the writing is done about the Z28 and SS. The entire lineup benefits from the positive press the top line cars get. This comes in the form of more sales (model gets a great performance image) The other cars in the lineup also benefit from much of the aftermarket development that the Z28 and SS get.

In the case of the Impreza, which is a brand heading in a 'performance' direction, more sales overall will translate to more RS owners than there are now, which means a larger market, which means more parts, better parts, more vendors and lower prices.

Chain of events:

[*]New WRX and RS released[*]WRX praised as ugly but fast[*]Lots of interest generated by WRX press buzz[*]Some consumers will not be able to afford, but like the philosophy - they will likely become RS owners[/list]

I think that beyond a certain power level the WRX owners will be upgrading to 2.5L displacement anyway, so parts for the 2.5L won't be scarce.

Question Potential increase in aftermarket support for the 2.5l?

Isn't it quite possible that the aftermarket will actually get better for the 2.5's if the subaru name gains recognition? Doesn't this mean that there will be new tuners and more competition to drive prices down? I'm saying as far as engine mods go? I dunno about support for the 2.5rs itself but the engine should still be around in the next-gen impreza. Just a thought guys. Whaddya think?
