Default 02/03 vs 04+ Suspension Myth

Hi all,

I've read countless times that the suspension for the 02/03 chassis (i.e. springs/struts) were interchangeable with the 04 and up models AS LONG as the rear strut tops on the 04's were replaced with 02/03 ones.

However recently I've purchased Tein Flex's that were on my friend's STI and they bolted right up to my WRX. This leaves me wondering...?

What changed in the 04's was the rear spring design. They moved to a tapered rear spring that got smaller tward the top. The mounting points for the suspension hasn't changed at all though, so as long as your springs fit your strut tops(02-03 springs, use 02-03 strut tops... 04 springs , use 04 strut tops), everything is fine.

Coilovers, since they replace everything including the strut tops usually, have no problems bolting on to any 02-04 car.

All the suspension components are interchangeable....but if you want to use the stock '04 rear springs, you have to use '04 compatible rear tops with them.
