Lightbulb My Theory for the Impreza's new look.

Maybe Subaru went w/ the new, untraditional, radical/ questionable styling to try and get Mitsubishi to stop plagerizing their designs. Every EVO I've seen just looks like a squared off copy of the WRX, so why not go down a styling path that Mitsubishi will have to think twice about following? It may not be beautiful, but it definitely is unique.

That's not the reason because the Lancer EVO6 is the last of that style. The new Lancer will be like a Focus, and like everyone else Mitsubishi will finally build a WRC class car. The Lancer / Charisma was the last Group A car and the WRC rules make homologation sooooo much easier. (look at the Focus... no AWD, no 2.0L turbo in stock form. Fine for WRC class!)

The funny thing is that the Impreza is already a WRC class car, so technically they don't need to limit the WRX's displacement to 2.0L anymore. I imagine they did so anyway because of taxes in Japan and parts of Europe. (>2L = more taxes)

I actually had a chance to look at the new EVO VII and it doesn't look like a focus at all. . It sure looked wicked though. It retains some of the old styling cues and yet added some newer designs. I like it.
On the other hand with this new WRX, well I dunno what to think. It sure reminds me of a neon/echo type thang....

Hey, my theory was just a joke btw. Of course I don't really think that is why Subaru went in such a radical styling direction. Ooh, just saw a hot babe out the office window. Gotta go!
