All it needs is painted side skirts to match. Initially that is, I'm sure I'd change some more stuff later.

Looks great!!! White is the color for this car. The new spoiler for the sedan is really cool, helps complete the Porscheized look. I hope we get the same goodies stock as OZ.

Gorgeous!

Just wait 'til you see a white wagon with dark tint! It is heartening to hear some positive feedback from somebody on the speed of the car (someone who would know - a '98 WRX owner).

Why would the car be an MY02? It's only October 2000!

In Australia MY02 means a car built primarily in calendar year 2002 - it's not a marketing ploy.

Hi
I'm the owner of the car in the Website. I picked the car up Friday the 28th. It is a brilliant car to drive, compared to my old MY98 WRX it does everything so much better. It handles like a dream, stops on a dime etc. Only problem with the car is its too quiet (easily fixed!). Yes I agree white does look good, I was going to go for silver (also a great colour) but chose white for practical reasons, but I'm really pleased with the colour.
In Australia the car is the MY01 (or MY2001), as it is next years car basically, just released at the end of 2000. Its always been like that, eg the MY99 was released in August 1998. I do have some engine shots, which arent very good quality so I didnt post them. If you wish to get a copy of them email me at WReXy_STi@hotmail.com. The page is so slow because its a temporary page until my proper MY01 page is up and running (hopefully by the end of the week - I'll keep you posted.
I changed over from an MY98 WRX for many reasons, some financial some other. I ordered the MY01 (and sold my old car) back in April before any information was known about the car, so I upgraded because the MY99 was already a step over the MY98 (bigger brakes being the main attraction), and I figured the MY01 would be even better.

Thanks for the pics and story, mate!

Any chance you could post some hard numbers for us? It would also be nice to have a good subjective comparison from the owner's standpoint of pros/cons of the '98 vs '01.

Cheers!

Hard numbers? As in 0-100 km/h and 0-400 metre times? I didnt run any in my old car which was standard, and even if I do run some in this car it won't be a level playing feild as the car is getting modified next week and I would wait till its run-in before really testing it. I'd say the car is as fast. A guy from an aftermarket Subaru specialist here has been given a run in MY01 by Subaru on and off for the last 4 weeks and he thinks its faster, even though it weighs more and has same power. More to do with the power spread over revs.
And for the pro's and con's of both cars? Thats hard one, there really were no con's, all pro's for both cars. I think the new car is just a better all round package than the old car - handles better, stops better etc etc.
The looks might not be your cup of tea, but in the end you dont see the outside of the car from the drivers seat.............

Whoa whoa whoa, your modifying it already? Is that engine even broken in yet?

Btw when you mentioned "the car is much less "explosive" in its power delivery with much less of a turbo kick".
Does this mean it kinda feels like a n/a v6 instead of a flat 4 turbo?

Mitsubishi did this "refinement" crap to the 2nd gen eclipse too and it felt like an n/a v6 instead of a 4 cyl turbo.
IMO it sucked, the older 90-94 eclipse's had this wicked punch when the turbo kicked in, the 95-99's just felt like a fast n/a v6, kinda like a probe gt.

Yep thats right. Feels more like a naturally aspirated car now. In my mind thats a bad thing too, the turbo kick made the car feel much faster.
And yep - getting an exhaust system fitted next week, should of done 600 km's by them maybe.

Why would you want explosive power delivery?

Ummm, you are mid corner, on the limit of adhesion, feed in some gas, and suddenly, whoa, too much power!! Car slides..

Sure, a rush of power feels impressive, but if the power is all the same, I'd rather it come on progressively. The rush is one of the things that makes it difficult to drive a turbo car fast.

Good point, but this is a AWD car we are talking about! Hardly likely to loose the back!

I just bought a new MY01 in Sydney and can offer a comparision between an MY98 and an MY01, I personally think that the MY01 seems a lot slower, certainly not explosive, which I love. I haven't collected it yet (next week). As a "mod freak" for the past 3 years I am eager to mod it asap coz I can't help myself, pity that few of my pre-MY01 parts will fitr on this model such as front mount intercooler & VF22 turbo. I don't know where the hell and intercooler will fit, very restricted space in the front end.

As for the MY01 lacking in power we are laying the blame fairly and squarely on Subaru Japan making this car essentially for the US market thereby choking it and keeping it quiet for EPA reasons, so when you do get it we are expecting you guys to come up with some nice modes for them!!OK!
