Default UBC parking question

Hey guys, I've applied at UBC for the fall semester, and i hope to live on campus. But im trying to figure out what res buildings have secure parking, how much it costs and how safe it is. any of you guys use it? (i searched through their website but couldnt find anything). Thanks guys/girls. Cheers.

Yeah, that's about right.

All of the parking is insecure here. How old are you and what programme are you in? Thunderbird has underground garages like any other apartment complex for something like $40-50 a month, but I doubt it's all that safe...

Cool, T-Bird minimum age is 20 so you should be OK if you want to apply there. Last I heard the waiting list was pretty long, though...

i don't know if thunderbird will let you in because you are a first year student . However if thunderbird does not work out i might suggest gage as an alternative. There is a parkade just next door and is central in the University.

Not that it's close to any residence, but most people that I know, myself included, have parked in Rose for 3-4 years without a single issue, though I have heard of one or two cases of broken windows.

Another good choice would be to find a residence where you can actually see your car ... I believe that some Gage complex (not the highrise) units overlook the parking lot.

cool, actually one of my friends is staying in the small gage building, his window looks right out on the parking lot outside, looked pretty convienient.

as for a few broken windows, thats not to bad, in the past year ive had 1 broken window and 4 people have hit my parked car as long as the people can park straight it sounds good to me haha.

Oh, people in Rose are terrible parkers and the spaces are small. The key is to park on the first or second floor, where there are always empty spaces. I haven't had any dings in 4 years there.

why not get a place that is relatively close to campus? It's probably cheaper than living on campus and you don't have to worry about transportation because you have your own car.

well a place off campus will still run me $800 a month + utilities. (electric gas internet phone food). ends up being quite a bit. id sooner save the bucks for gas in my car everyday by just walking the few blocks.

least on campus if i have roomates, or a real small room, i can do like 500-800 a month and that includes my heat electric and internet.

Besides, i'd like to experience campus life if i dont like it ill move off the next year :P

Tim

P.S. thanks for all the info so far guys, its helping

it all depends on where you stay. My sister lives on west broadway in a single bedroom apt with her boyfriend. She pays around $600/month utilities included. I've biked with her to UBC before and it only takes about 30 mins. Good excercise! If you don't like campus life, all you have to do is find a roomate and a place to live! It's much cheaper IMO.
