Question Winter Paint Sealant - good or bad?

The local Ziebart place is offering a "Winter Paint Sealant" sale - including buffing ans sealing with Renu-a-Shine for $79.95. Keeping in mind our salted roads and my laziness in washing my car (right, Ridin'Low?) is this a good thing to do? Or does it do more harm than good?

I'm not sure what this is... it sounds like something you apply to the paint. If so, then it's not necessary because the paint itself prevents the body from rusting.

If it's some kind of coating you apply to the underbody, you should avoid that too, because it's gonna be sealing in all the crap you have built up underneath there.

Heh, you should see how dirty my car is, although come to think of it, your car was one of the dirtiest cars I've ever seen!

I think it's a heavy-duty wash and wax. The ad says you won't need to wax until spring. I'm looking for a way to protect the paint from salt.

I know the undercoat thing is a scam. Since most cars now have a lot of alloy and plastic, plus any steel is galvanized undercoating is no help - in fact, the holes they drill can speed rust if they aren't sealed properly.

Heavy duty wash? As long as it gets your car clean without scratching it, you can use pretty much anything (like dishwasher soap). Nothing magical here.

As for the wax, I'd just stick with a quality wax like something from Meguiar's. If you do a good job waxing it, the harder waxes should last for a long time (months).
