Yeah, that's about right.

Post Help! Need body shop advice...

My g/f's 6G Civic has some low-speed damage to the rear bumper skin and (gulp) monobody surrounding the tail light cluster. The light is also cracked and will have to be replaced.

Can people please post body shop experiences? Yes I know we have done this before; I did a search and this is the list so far:

Quote:
Good:
- Anderson Autobody (N. Bay)
- Lakeville Autobody (N. Bay)
- Eastern Autobody (Oakland)
- Valley Collision (Pleasanton) -- talk to Bob Carter and mention Kartboy
- TK Autobody (El Cerrito)
- DentPro, (510)719-6985 Chris
- Cooks' Collision (Berkeley) ($$$)
- Anchor Auto Body (Sunnyvale) -- see Paul's comment below

Mediocre:
- Capitol Collision (San Jose)

Bad:
- G&C Autobody (N. Bay)

If you had a BAD or mediocre experience somewhere, please post that too -- chances are she's going to get a list of insurance-approved shops, and we want to know which ones to AVOID. The unibody damage around the light cluster is a delicate job and needs to be done PERFECT otherwise there will be water leakage, so we don't want to trust this to anybody but the best.

Advice much appreciated -- thanks guys.

When I had my accident my insurance company recommended Capitol Collision AutoRepair (something like that, I know it is Capitol Collision)They are off of Capitol Expressway and Snell avenue, next to the theaters. The first time I had to go there was when my front end got messed up. They fixed it up very nicely and even powdercoated the orange vent thing black (I had painted both of them black, when I was in the accident the driver's side was messed up and the passenger side retained the black vent piece-they looked at both of them and thought they got the wrong part [the orange vent] so they painted it black). The second time I went there was for a dent that hit my driver side fender and door. I was informed that to do their color blending of the hood, vents, scoop, door, etc. they would have to take the vents and scoop off. I was worried about this because I have neon lights there, they said no problem and took care of it pretty well.

Some not so good:
The second time my car was repaired-while on the way home, my car was rubbing like crazy. I get it home and notice that something was NOT right. The tire was sticking out like they were 235. I took it back and asked them to fix it. They said that it was off about 1degree and fixed it free of charge. But the waiting on just a simple alignment like that was 3hours!!!

So all in all I am pleased with them. But, I do not have another place to compare.

Hope that helps some..

Just stay away from large chains that offer $399 complete body paint and you should be fine. Also, places that are approved to do insurance work are good bets.

I had the door of my civic torn off by a bear a few years back. There is a shop in El Cerrito called TK autobody that specializes in Honda work.
They were quick (3 days) pretty cheap $900 for a new PPG windsheild and replacing the door with a new one, plus paint matching the door and the surrounding panels)and since I live around the corner I could walk home!

Thanks for the advice folks. FWIW, I had my car repaired at Capitol Collision a few years back after some idiot bicyclist stuffed his face in my passenger side door. The results were less than spectacular. Uneven surface and orange peel paint, but at least it comes with a lifetime warranty...

These high-volume insurance shops seem to be very much the McDonalds of the body repair world. Reliable mediocrity.

Kartboy says to go to his old joint, Valley Collision in Pleasanton.

extremely expensive, but highest quality work, cooks collision in berkeley. never actually been able to afford them, but talking to them and seeing their work definately deserves a reccomendation. call them, they will help you or reccomend someone that is excellent. they will tell you flat out that they are very expensive unless your insurance is covering it.
