Talking Antarctica Pictures!! (Finally geez!)

Ok, I found a place to upload! Here's how it works here at the Station. We all have access to a "common" drive on the netwerk to post and pull pictures. So, because I don't have a digital camera here with me (I know, I'm kicking myself!) I did not take these photos. All of the photos that I am taking have to be developed when i get back home. So, some guy named Edmund took these shots, I don't know him but his were the best on the drive. Now, here are a few pictures!

This is a photo of Mt. Erebus. It is what I believe to be the southern most active Volcano known. It is basically right next to McMurdo Station! Notice the smoke!

This should be part of the edge of a big glacier known as Erebus Toungue. It slowly breaks off into the Ocean as the summer goes on.

This is the opening of an Ice cave, looking back out of the cave. The caves form within Erebus Toungue so they are always changing.

This is one inside shot of the cave. This was the best photo I found but to give you an idea it was at least 20+ feet high inside! It's very cool to walk through a hole just big enough for you to fit into and have it open up into a huge room full of color and Ice! It is also very warm inside (well warm is all relative down here).

This one is pretty straight forward. Very cool!

Well, that's all for now. I am hoping to find a good picture of McMurdo Station, oh yeah and some photos of the vans that I drive. I will see what I can do about comendiering a digital for a day.

enjoy!
curtis

Actually, those shots would make for some excellent nature-themed wallpaper & posters. Hell, you may even be able to sell some of those shots since not too many people are down there to document the scenery.

Are the remains of the Air New Zealand flight that crashed into it, still on Mt Erebus?

Kewl pix with the smoke form Mt. Erebus? Is it still active? Wow.... would be spectacular to see the lava mixing it all up with the ice and glacier.

Definetly snowmobile land. Wow that is impressive.

I bet it's nice & quiet & peaceful out there, isn't it? All you hear is the wind away from the stations?

BTW, I yoinked all the pics for desktop material. Absolutely fabulous views.
