Talking 6spd in new wrx? Ok, how hard to drop into my00?

Ok, so I can't stand the new Impreza's looks. But the 6 spd trans sounds quite tempting. Unless we have to shift 4 times to get to 60... So, anyone car to speculate on the feasibility of putting the 6 spd in the current generation of imprezas? Heh heh heh....

-Brian

P.S. Don't you love having to shift 3 times to get to 60?

Right now I think just puting the 5 speed gearbox from the WRX-RA is around $3000 I hate to think what a 6-speed would be....

With as much torque as these cars have they could definetly get a way with having a 6th gear. I hate traveling down the highway at 70mph with over 3,000rpm's!

The WRX will probably be capable of about 150mph, and the stock RS doesn't have enough power to go that fast. Because of that the 6th speed would only be benificial for improving highway gas mileage. Now if you could get a close ratio 6spd with a gear ratio limit of about 120-130mph I could see it improving the RS's acceleration. However that would cause you to shift several times on the way to 60.

not to be a nerd, but you only shift twoce, really, to get to 60. 1 to 2 and 2 to 3.

Isn't the MY03 slated to come to the US with a 6 speed?

Ummm...according to the test page on the Subaru site, (the one with the pics of the WRX NB and the WRX NA and the wagonas, etc...) the new WRX has the 5MT.

Where did you find out about the 6spd?

I think he is referring to the STi version, that is supposidly going to get a 6-speed tranny. It more than likely will not be imported.

Yeah, that's probably just another rumor.

But if it is true, it'll be just another reason for us current model owners to circle around junked MY02 imprezas like vultures. I can hear it now. "Yeah, man. I'm sorry about your scrapped WRX. So, which junkyard is it at? "

I would love to have a 6spd even for the NA RS just to improve the gas mileage. I feel that with the turbo, the 6spd is a must - unless you auto-x. With a 6spd, the top speed should increase (with the turbo, and entirely depends on the gear ratio). Once the 6spd is in, we will need a new speedometer I think this has been discussed before - auto-x don't usually use high gears, and some will even prefer that 2nd gear go up to 60mph given the low redline we have. Cost?? what cost?? I think I will go broke if I upgrade to a 6spd along with the turbo and TEC-II

Mmmmmmmm...... 6-speed........

What's this complainin' about 3,000rpm on the highway?? Gimme a break, this is heaven!!
My '94 Acura Integra RS used to travel at 75mph at around 4,300rpm!

And that car had like NO sound deadening.
The Subaru's an Audi A8 compared to that thing.
(Though it had a better seating position. Less comfortable seats, but a better position.)

Lol, I was just trying to get the creative juices flowing. As far as not having enough power: if I was going to blow a few g on a dang tranny don't you think I'd blow some elsewhere as well, Also, if the six speed was just really short gears I'd definitely NOT get it. Yeah, shorter gears are great for acceleratiing until one is shifting more than accelerating. (It's a sports car [ok, coupe] not a Mack, :P) Anyway this is just more trunk monkey stuff, I doubt we'll be blessed with a 6 spd for a long time. Plus, I'm saving my monkey treats for my SVX. (Unless it has an auto [Unless it's a six speed auto ] and it weighs in like an Excursion because it has more glass than an office building...)

I Guess I've been Pampered. I was complaining about the 3,000rpm's because My Camaro cruises at right around 2,000rpm's at 70mph
