I race r/c gas cars every sundays, mostly 1/8 gas offroad. However, I do have a on-road car, the Serpent Impulse. It is a 1/10 scale nitro touring car. The Impulse is currently the top in it's class. If you don't mind spending a little bit more, you should go with the Impulse but as you said you're not gonna race, your best bang for the buck is to get the HPI Nitro racer. Just put a 2 speed transmission in it and it'll be just as fast as any car in it's class, it just don't handle very well and break easily if you hit something. Hope that helps.

I have an rs4 rally of my impreza, as for nitro cars, I heard some of the ready to run ones are decent, and priced relatively well to beat on. they come with everything, including remote, wich you might not need.

Post O/T... R/C cars

I used to race R/C cars a lot, back in the early days of high school. Had a Yr-4M and a Yr-4GP. They were both amazing. I've since sold 'em both to fund my expensive girlfriend. I do have a HPI RS-4 rally though. Although i love that thing to death, I want another nitro car. Any suggestions? I want something relatively inexpensive, easy to run and maintain. I'm not gonna race, it just run it around the ole parking lot for fun.

Thumbs up

Traxxas Nitro 4-TEC. It comes with evrything you need. Get some proper tires and a more accurate steering servo, and you'll kill the competition. Does 50 mph right out of the box! Even with it's on-board electric starter equipment! You don't even have to lift the body to start it because the terminal for the electric starter sticks out of the top of the body for easy access. It also comes with a 2-speed, planetary diffs, U-joints all around, ball bearings everywhere, an aerodynamic body, brushed aluminum look wheels, Pro-Line V-tread tires, tuned muffler, counter sunk chassis, .15 TRX engine with machined aluminum heat sink(very important. cast sinks suck) and more! As I said, you can race it out of the box, but the servos could be more precise, and tire selection varies from track to track as well as weather conditions.

The best 2 out there would be Mugen MTX-2 and the Serpent Impulse. You get more bang for the buck with the MTX-2 as it includes the 2 speed. But both are great when tuned properly. I have both. My favorite is the MTX-2 though. Just can't beat the Rossi MT-12 motor!!!
