Default Maybe buying an Outback

Hello everyone,

I have the oppurtunity to get a 98 Outback limited. What type of things should I be looking for when I look at it? Any common problems with this year? What would be a resonable price for one with all the options and 116k? Thanks

Do a search, you will find that there are issues with the clutches in manual transmission equipped cars, alternator recall, some owners have mentioned head gasket failures (knock on wood that it hasn't happened to me!) and everyone should replace the timing belt when the car goes off warranty (this is very important!!)

Aside from that the only other problem I have had was with interior switch illumination bulbs burning out, particularly those for the seat heaters! Snooping around on the forum here I found out that replacing them is no big thing! You'll find this forum an invaluable source if you decide to buy!

As for a fair price, here in Calgary, car dealers tend to sell the LTD. at a premium that would choke you, but then again the higher priced cars typically have pretty low miles on them as well.

Keep in mind that the 116K on your car is getting up there! If I were you I'd do a search on e-bay or soemthing like that and get a feel what people are asking for their cars. If your car was in Canada, I would probably think the car was worth about $15K to $18K CDN or around $10K to $12K US?
