long time listener, first time caller. i need help asap

hey, ive been browsing these forums for a while, and i have a major problem.

i was with my buddy in his wrx, and the turbo has been messed up on it for a while - major surging, and alot of cutting out, but it was always driveable.

then tonight, it had a loud buzzing, then nothing. no turbo, no nothing. car was lurching at anything about 2k. we get home, and the engine is smoking, and i pop the hood and the turbo is glowing red hot.

hes always wanted to do a turbo upgrade on his wrx, and i guess now is the time. so, if anyone could recomend a good, honest, well priced wrx shop in southern orange county, PLEASE let me know asap by emailing me at thuglizzife@hotmail.com. we are going to get it towed there first thing in the morning.

the thought is not to take it to a dealer because they would do nothing but return it to stock, and since hes wanted to do major engine work to it, we figure that we might as well get all of that done now, instead of later.

please let help my buddy and i out! thanks in advance.

take it in, get the warrenty stuff so you can sell it later after you get all the stuff done.

ok, well thats the problem.

its an 02, with a salvage title. he sold his 03 325i for it, and he paid 5 grand for this wrx, which has had problems since day one, and since day one i've been telling him to get it fixed. but, he wont, and he was trying to tell me as i was writing that post that he is driving it to work tomrrow, so i have to hold his hand through this so he doesnt get ripped off, and so he wont drive it and mess up more of it as well. great friend, not very good with his whole thought process sometimes.


i will look up all of those places tomorrow when i get up - i have a long wait at the dmv tomorrow.

Gimme a call tomorrow when you have the time (or on second thought, have your friend give me a call as well). I have a couple questions about what happened, and what exactly he wants to do with his car.

hey kym, ill be giving you a call tomorrow. i think he is takign the day off work, so we will both be able to cruise down there and speak with you in person. he is going out of town for the week on saturday, so i'll probably be the one you are dealing with.

i hope once he gets it fixed he'll let me drive it... even all messed up as it was, it was still way faster than my gti.

i will for sure.

i care about him, and i know if i didnt jump right on this and help him out, he would just drive it tomorrow.

i was SO pissed when he sold his bmw for this, i wanted to punch him.

it was silver with a black leather interior, 5 speed, 30k miles, 19inch rims, two doors, sportpackage... it was seriously amazing.

and his wrx, well lets put it this way. when he picked it up it had a lightup shift knob (which it still has... kym can vouch for it tomrrow)

really? i thought it was closer to 15...

yeah he has a body kit on it too, its siqq... haha. it added atleast 45hp when they threw that on.


we noticed tonight when the hood was up that the radiator support in the front was all messed up, haha the car had been in an accident, and my buddy didnt even know.

he showed up, handed the guy a check, and drove home.. two days later, went back trying to get his money back, the guy told him to get off his property.

hahaha. oh well, live and learn.

the first time my friend drove it was after the guy had the check.

he didnt even ask about it. the guy told him that he had it checked out, and it was all ok, but couldnt produce paperwork.

i never said my friend was a savvy buyer ha.

hmm i dont know by law dont they have to discloase its a salvage title... i think your friend is teh stupid if he really handed a guy a check before driving it

Hey no prob I can be pretty sympathetic to your buddy. I'd freak out if that happened to me. Key is to get to some work ASAP.. I'm sure he needs a car to drive around!

why does he want to go for a turbo upgrade when his car is in such bad shape? Fix the problem before you upgrade. Are you guys 100% sure it's only the turbo causing trouble?

If he got the oil changed somewhere they probably knocked the oil line for the turbocharer and it probably seized up. On one of my visits to an "unnamed" dealership I saw that this happened to a guy and his turbo sounded like ass .. but he got it their before the seizing occured.
