Question ECU for 2004 STi : UTEC/Unichip/AEM/e-Manage: opinions-experiences??

Ok-
so I've forked about $8000 so far in APS parts:
APS DR55T - rotated-mount turbo
APS DR500 - FMIC
APS 3.5" exhaust
Modified for STi APS tumbler delete with 720cc injectors
APS race fuel system
APS BOV

the last part I need is the engine management unit (ECU)
I've read all I could come across : UTEC / APS Unichip / AEM / Greddy eManage ....

Have any of you STi owners had any experience with any standalone or piggyback engine management unit?

Here in Calif we get the "awesome" 91 pump gas - other states get 93 ... any issues with our 91 gas ?

Any issues with cold-starts ... detonation?

Your accounts on experience will be greatly appreciated as I will like to make an informed decision on the ECU I select for my STi.

Just can't wait to get the APS parts installed and see what the dyno has to say....

My setup will be very similar to this one - so I should see about 375 whp on our sweet 91 gas ..... I hope !
400 whp

We and GP MOTO tuned a car very similar to yours less than a month ago. The only difference was that it had a SR 50, stock tumblers, and an APS 4-1 header. The car made 350WHP @20 lbs on Brainstorm's Dyno Dynamics dyno. This was using CA 91. I can probably use that cars map as a basemap and modify from there.

We used a GP MOTO unichip and the car was awesome when we were done. It was also tuned in under a hour of dyno time.

We have the plug and play harnesses available for the STI, and best of all you are local so we can custom tune it for you. (I am in Orange County) I see no problem making 375 WHP with your setup.

We had no reported problem w\ cold starting or detonation. The car ran very smooth.

Let me know if you are interested. I will be out of town this weekend, so I may be slow to respond until next week.

Regards,
Ashley

Yes APS is expensive. It looks very pretty though.

Our twin scroll turbo kit will match if not make more than that kits power for a little over half of the price.

Cool !
I was over at Brainstorm a couple of weeks ago just to look at the place- they seem very knowledgeable. Talked to Garret. I'll have to stop by your place - possibly next Thursday... Friday is the SEMA IAS .. which I may go to if my buddy gets me the "trader" tickets - I digress ....

Ok - so I'll stop by to get "quote"
I'll need installation of most the above parts and dyno-tuning

I like the feature on the UTEC that allows you to select maps for higher-octane fuels

YEP ! APS is pricey ....
the turbo alone was $3995 ... yikes..... 3.5" exhaust $1200 .... FMIC $1500, etc ...

Ashley - thanks for the info - I'll have to talk to you and get the quote, I'll be going to the April 10th S.Coast Subaru event too.

The unichip does have 2 maps that you can toggle between for higher octane fuels. Forgot to mention that.

I think that's going to void your warranty.

ssssshhhhhhh!!! just don't tell .....
maybe I can still get the warranty claims approved after my engine blows up when trying to get 700hp by running the A/F lean ... like in the 13's hehehe!!!
Yep - that should definetely void it ..... I'm going with a "conservative" tune.... so I should get a few years life out of my flat 4
