Simple Exhaust Question

So what happens when you remove the resonator from your exhaust?
Does it just add noise or does more tone also happen?
I have an STi axle back with stock eveything else and want a little more exhaust note.
Suggestions for someone on a budget?

ditch the exhaust, run open downpipe... remind the dog that open flames from turbo is hazardous to it's health

I learnt this from JC who helped me out when I got stuck trying to figure the same thing.

An after market midpipe is a nice piece and it removes the OEM resonator. In removing the resonator from the system it gives the system really nice sound quality without a lot of volume. I also think it improves flow characteristics of the exhaust system.

Hey I'm not looking to sound like I've got a monster under the hood, just want to bring out that boxer sweetness a little bit more. I actually like the STi sound, just want a lil' more "rumble".
I think I'll look at removing the resonator. Any shops to recommend? Or should i just get a custom mid-pipe made at Budget as it's not a "performance" mod?

Yeah, there's a bright idea.

Actually, when I had the axle back put in, Cody told me to drive it without the muffler (he had another customer in the bay, so we had swapped places) and it sounded GOOD. Unruly, but good.

ThedOg: Where did you go and what did you put in? Simple mid-pipe?

actually, if u want to hear a wrx with no muffler or resonators (i think no cat as well) go ask cody to fire up the silver rally car in the shop... just don't stand behind it when he does
