Post WRX or not, I don't care.

What is the latest info on the MY01 Impreza? When will it go on sale?

I take it back, I take it back, I take it back!!! I care, I care, I care!!!

I just got off the phone with SOA. The MY01 brochures will be ready in about a month and WRX will go on sale in late September.

Anyone wants to buy my car?

I have seen a lot of speculation on the 01 impreza. And from the looks of it even if you just put a conservative turbo on a 98,99,00 RS you have about the same power, on a possibly lighter car.

Dont get me wrong, I am still very interested in seeing some concrete information on the 01 impreza, but a turbocharger for a 98-00 rs will still be cheaper then a 01 impreza.

I was just going to post that it was kinda funny no US WRX Turbo posts today or yesterday! Leave it to the "Prez"!

Is September for the 2001 WRX with the current body style?
Wouldn't that be sweet?
The SOA guy at the local Autoshow told me they might do a limited run to phase it out. He said next May June for the all-new Impreza including the turbo.

Angry

SOA better start thinking of a TRD-like supercharger for all us RS owners. I am going to be upset if they don't remember the people who made their car into the commercial success it is. I know a lot of people here have put on aftermarket turbos and so on, but I'd feel safer with a factory part I can bit** to SOA about if it busts.

I'm going to pop off an email. I know I should be happy about the WRX coming, but man, I just can't be.

Are you kidding Alex? They really told you on the 800 customer service line that they're selling the Impreza turbo this Sept?

'Cuz if it's a 2001 Impreza 2.5RS, big deal. An early arriving turbo model is a whole 'nother story though!

September?!?! Wow.
When you say "SOA" do you mean the top dogs in Cherry Hill or some chump at your local dealership?
I guess I'd better get the swirl marks out of my paint soon so I can trade it in.

Overtime (and anybody else interested) - If you'd like FACTORY issued SC or TC kits, EMAIL/CALL/SWAMP SOA!!! Let them know other Japanese automakers (like Toyota w/ TRD) have already done this. In fact, we should have EVERYBODY (whether interested or not) do it!!!

I've already emailed SOA once regarding this. They even remembered I was the one who asked them earlier about other SOA approved aftermarket parts (like Prodrive). Obviously, they responded w/ a "nothing planned yet" but they did say they will forward the suggestion to their development department. Maybe if they receive enough emails and calls, they may seriously look into this.

my 2 cents

Here is what happened. I called SOA (phone # on the website) and asked when the MY01 Impreza will go on sale. They said WRX? I said, I don't care. Whatever that will be. I just want to buy a new Impreza. This way they though of me as a regular customer and not performance freak that give the common "no info for the public" stuff. They said MY01 will go on sail in September and if I would like to get a brochure. I said and when. They said 1 month. I said cool. I said will that be the MY01 brochure, they said yes, the one with WRX. I said WRX? They said yes, but din't have any specs, which I haven't asked for to remain "normal".

Thats it. I am not holding my breath for it. We'll see in about a month.

That's really strange! It makes sense that the '01 Impreza would come out in late September, but I am pretty sure it is just going to be a short model year of the same Impreza RS, OBS and L that we all know and love.

Really strange that they volunteered 'WRX' though.

Unhappy

That can't be right.
When I went to look at getting an RS a couple of weeks ago, those sons of bitches told me that the next "new" impreza was going to be a 2.5RS wagon. They said that the WRX wasn't for a year or two apparently.

Then again.. we all know how much our dealers know about cars. If Imprezer's info is correct.. I might just have to hold off on swapping the 1.8 for an ej20 till I see how the new "rex" handles out it's power.

Thumbs up

I have sent SOA requests for a factory backed forced induction every week for about a month now. Hopefully they won't leave the rest of us hanging. They already said they won't make the H6 Legacy available. I wonder how many different requests they need before they offer the rest of us something?

The truth? well, I have nothing to gain by lying, just passing along what my friend was telling me last night. I believe that's how I stated it above.

Colin: the evo info I have states U.K. 0-60 time in the
- 6.3 secs for the 215bhp impreza turbo
- 4.6 secs (0-60) for the 276bhp P1.
- 5.0 sec (0-60) for the RB5 (237bhp).

I dont have 1/4 mile times, but then again, it was just a G-Tech.

Once again, thats the test data from evo magazine (UK).
