I've got a DOHC EJ25 with just over 90,000 miles. I need to get my timing belt changed and I understand that this is a good time to install more agressive cams. how many further labor hours is it beyond changing a timing belt to swapping cams?
I'm also interested in whether it is worth it to cam a 90,000 mile engine. I'm looking at the TWE stage I cams for $690. What do you think?

it's about 7 hours labor a side and then you have to re-shim them once you are done

Is the timing belt change really not a good time? It's got to cut some hours off labor, right? |

whylegacy,
Installing the cams requires all the disassembly needed for the timing belt change and then the following: * Remove the valve covers * Remove the cam retaining caps * Swap the cams * Perform valve adjustment * Reassembly In my opinion this is a perfect time to install the cams. You're near the 109,000 mark for a valve adjustment anyway. Most shops charge a flat rate for the valve adjustment. They'd probably just charge an hour or two of labor for the cam install. Best Regards, Chris |
