Question RS vs Z24??

I know I should know better, but I had a friend say he smoked an RS off the line this weekend, Being a true subie fan I know this isn't possible unless the guy just plain out didn't try.

Anyone have any experience with this?

his Z24 has a weaponR intake and some exhaust mod.
RS, I don't know, I didn't think there were any around this little city of mine

hahaha...wutever..the sunfire could not take the Impreza off the line if it had turbo...haha..the RS would still get a better launch then the Sunfire...

I raced a Sir that clocked in 14.3 quarter miles...and this guy is a really really good driver...I raced him 3 times.and all three times I got a good half car on him off the launch..but then in third..he just caught up and flew by me

Cool syms thanks, I didn't think that he did blow it away, the guys in the Subie musn't of even noticed my friend trying to race.

Although I still don't believe him because there are no 2.5rs's around here, just a tonne of Legacy outbacks and 2 TS's

If he raced an auto RS then he may have gotten off the line quicker but, the only way he would have stayed in front is if the RS was not trying. Maybe grandma was driving. I have seen a few RSs around here driven by much older people that would never race if you taunted them.

Why wouldn't it be possible? The Z24 is about as fast as an RS, & with some mods, it could be faster than one.

if it's the v6 version then it's possible...but chevy has junk auto tranny's which is what most em are...i raced a sunfire that was modded in stock civic ex (work mobile) and smoked him..so figure it out what the RS would do.

The Cavalier hasn't had a V6 option for quite a while, & it doesn't really matter because the 2.4L I4 in the late model Z24's is more powerful than the old POS 2.8L V6 that used to be in there.

I test drove a Z24 & found the handling to be pretty decent, the manual tranny was pretty good, and the brake pedal feel was excellent, but the cheesiness of the car and GM's reliability history turned me away. Oh, & the fact that it scored a 1 out of 5 in the side impact testing.

Have a Nice Day?

Actually, 90-94 Cavalier Z-24's had 3.1L V6's in them. My friend has one with 111kmi on it and the tranny slips to high hell. Must be that GM quality.

My friend has a Z24, and I have a 2.2L TS, well, off the line, Impreza definitely has the edge. I ran him a coupla times, and both were neck and neck.

We have a good number of Sunbricks and Z24s around here, and I have not been impressed. 150hp does not go a long way in those cars.

I just think that no matter what it is...it will still take it off the launch...I am not sure about anything after that..but I am sure even the V6 z24 cavalier...can be taken off the line...maybe not furthur down the stretch

Your Impreza will only take off if you both dump it at 4000. But in light to light race you'd start at idle. And that sux for AWD cars as it bogs at idle if you want to launch right. Don't discount a Z24.
I jsut had a run in last weekend at night. I didn't know this guy was racing as I was busy chatting with my fren. Then the next light I decided to play a bit. Launched at idle. We were pretty much neck and neck with me edging out. But when I finish 3rd getting to 4th I blew pass him. Why? cus he had an auto and msut've launched at 3rd gear. He tried to shif tto D but all I heard was "creak creak creak..." and bye bye time.

well, let me say i own a MY00 RS coupe. my father has a 99 Z24 MT, and my mom has a 98 Z24 Auto. i drive both cars a handful of times a month. dad has a K&N filter, and i have a K&N and 2.25" exhaust. i have to say his Z24 is nice and all but just not the car my RS is, i can just feel it that my car is a good amount quicker than his, but it is nice.

now, an aquaintance of mine has a 97 VW GTI VR6 DE and i stay pretty much on him, but he has a good suspension setup, and he is an incredible driver (very nice car). he has got koni struts/springs?, no strut twr bars, and some kind of computer chip. that torque steer is very noticeable...

Ditto RidinLow's comments. My previous car was a 96 Z24 mt, with only a K&N and exhaust, and some good driving it clocked a 14.99@90.9. No trash talking here, I have the time slip. The brakes were outstanding, with Eibach springs it was almost unbeaten at autoX's, however, it isn't half as nice inside or out as my Impreza. Inclement weather, forget about it, no comparison, the Impreza is invaluable.

Oh yeah, there was a point some where here. My Z24s best 60' time was a 2.19sec. My stock Imprezas best 60' time was a 2.0sec. IMO, either the RS wasn't launching at full tilt, it was an auto tranny RS that wasn't power braking, or the RS wasn't even racing. Off the line, a front wheel drive has no chance against an AWD, certerus paribus.
