Post What seats are people using? Recaros? Sparcos?

I'm saving up to upgrade my seats and possibly the entire interirior upholstery... I was set on these RECARO's ... The price is steep for the embroidered "prodrive" logo in the middle.

I know i could get them from somewhere else without the "prodrive" logo and i can even specify my own insert fabric... and i could get the logo embroidered localy myself if i really wanted it... Here's apicture of the regular seats without the logo...

But talking to someone last night he made me doubt my blind trust on Recaro seats which was until now based on the fact that my brother's car was fitted with recaro seats back in 1981 and they are still great... Supportive, and confortable...

I do not want bucket racing seats... I need something tha reclines becuase i have a coupe : )...

So what are people using in their cars and what are the impressions? Pictures of what you're talking about would be great, even if they're not of your car... I also need prices and where to get them...

Hey maybe we can get a groupbuy? : )

laters and thanx for all your help

The Sparco Torino is what I'd buy, but make sure you sit in ANY seat before you buy it.

I'm using the Recaro SE. Great seat, also the least expensive Recaro. No complaints. If it were in the budget, I would've gotten the Recaro SRD.
Recaro makes (IMHO) the best, most comfortable, and most durable seats in the business. Oh, I also drive about 40k each year, so I have plenty of 'seat' time --> Go with the Recaro.

EDIT: Recaro web site: http://www.recaro-nao.com/

I use the Cobra seat with Harness "holes" for my Schroth set-up. The seat is great but I had to get custom rails/brackets to fit in the car. Look-out! This is an added expense ($100+?) My seat is also of the reclined model named "Daytona" I think.

Good Luck!

Davis

P.S.
I thik I paid around $600 for the entire harnesses, seat and custom brackets from Sube' Sports in Calif.

Question

MrP0nch0, What price did you get for the recaro seats already? Do you have to get bottom brackets? And, do the seats you are looking at come with the ventalation system?

Dan... ventilation system is an option... as well as heater system and motorized adjustments... but I think i'll go without the motors... and i dunno about the heated/vented option... I found a RECARO dealer near me and i'm gonna check them out soon... Price varies from $1995 + $375 for brackets... That's the prodrive ones... to $1300 with brackets from a discount place....

Hi Carlos,

Like I told you last night, definitely try any seat before you buy it.

I was all set to get the Recaro SRD until I sat in it. It didn't have any more lumbar and general back support than the stock RS seats, and the lateral support was barely any better. Construction didn't feel very solid, and I think Kartboy actually had Recaro seats that broke.

I also tried the Recaro SPG's for fun too. They're a racing shell, but they were horrendously uncomfortable.

I ended up getting the Sparco Evo instead. Very comfortable, very supportive, but kinda hard to get in and out of, but it's worth it.

I sat in the Cobra seat the one the Irvine Subaru dealer had. I gotta say, that felt real comfortable. A lot better than the stock ones.

I'd say for all around functionality go with the STi seats. I'm kinda big (6', 240lbs) and these seats are very comfortable and supportive.

Is there a seat that can be lowered in the car? I too am kind of big (6' 4" 210 lbs.), and if I could drop the seat 1"-2" (may be even back, hmmm) that would help out a bit. Any ideas?

Thanks

The seat brckets on my brother's seats can be mounted on one of three different heights... All you do is pick a hole to bolt on and there you go... The holes are maybe 1.25 inches appart so you have a max difference of 2.5 inches... It sounds like not that much but trust me... There is a big difference...

Lightbulb

How much did you Sparco Torino buyers pay?
I'm split between them and the Corbeau Targa RS - 329 per seat plus brackets from Dave Turner Motorsports

I had a Cobra seat (Sidewinder - their top of the line road seat) from subesports. not sure where the brackets came from (Wedge Engineering?), but the seat was a bit creaky.

I checked with places in my area. Recaro are some of the best seats they say. I got a price of around $1600 installed with brackets for the style or trend seats. I will have to go try them out to see if it's worth it. SPD says that besides the STI seats, recaro is the only one's they would bother dealing with.

I think sparco makes some quality seats... but CORBEAU??? i dunno. That i'd have to look at one and maybe see one that's been used for years before deciding : )...

My brother has on his 1981 Jetta the top of the line (just released) back then... The ones you customize which seat and which back and sides and seat sides and what headrest you want... Maybe that's why tehy fit so well... : )

Definately go with the Sparco Torinos they are the best performace/price. If I had the money I'd go w/ the Recaros.

Thumbs up

Looks like svallo-sd beat me to the punch with the Corbeau Targa RS pics. I wanted those for my Acura. Great price for a sport seat.

Unfortunately I have very little room to play on Sparco products. The Sparco Torino seats are normaly $599ea retail and I can do them for $545ea plus brackets & freight.

I wish I had a better deal on the Sparco stuff. I am working on a deal with DemonTweeks so I will hopefully have better pricing on Sparco and OMP in the future.
