Peaty,

Did you happen to measure or look closely at the cast manifolds that bolt to the intercooler. I am curious as to how thick the walls are, in addition I am wondering how much upset there is for the the air to flow over. Since you have verified that the WRX Y hose fits, I was going to perform the install, except I was considering porting/smoothing out the transition (essentially I want to knife edge the entrance of the cast manifold so it does not disrupt the airflow).

Thanks

Perrin

Had I known or thought of it I would have but sorry no I did not do any measurements. The cast is pretty thick and I could see that there would be a benefit to doing what you are describing though.

When I get the chance to perform the swap I will try to document the porting the best I can. Thanks for taking the time and for dishing out the cash to try the wrx hose.

If thats the case, do you think a set of Samco hoses would fit? I have a friend who has a set he's going to give me when he parts out his WRX in a few months.

Thanx!

Bry.

That's how I got my hose (free ), from a WRX that was no longer using it. I don't see why Samco would not work too.

Very cool, thank you very much!

I took my stock Y pipe off the look at it a little while back and had a good laugh at the design, it looks like it was an after- thought when designing the car.

Do you know if the STi has a better flowing Y-pipe? I'm trying to make a list of all the things SOA did to the FXT to make a little less power aside from the obvious things (turbo, IC, ECU, injectors, etc.)

Peaty,
Have you seen the heat chimney made by Speedmonkee? Basically bolts in place of the stock heat shield over the turbo and funnels heat directly out the hood scoop. Looks easy to install and highly functional, but I wonder if during a heavy rain storm you might be at risk of throwing cold water on a hot turbo. What do think?

I only know of the heat chimney I've never messed with one myself. I don't know if there could be enough rain hitting it to do damage though. do you have a link I could look at? I'm wondering how hot air could get something cold should be getting shoved into. Do they make one for the forester? The forester's scoob snoot is not the same as the WRX's because the WRX's is not as wide.

I got the hose free So I'm not sure how much they are going for at this time. The benefits are in the link to the mod page I posted above.

Here's a link with information on the heat chimney. Apparently, they don't make one for the Forester XT however. At least not yet.
