Talking Prodrive stuff?--work is cool!

I am a mechanical engineering student currently on co-op with a company called Borg-Warner Automotive and saw something cool at work the other day. We design timing chain systems for lots of Fords, Chryslers, some GM, some foreign stuff as well as make chains for automatic tranny's and transfer cases. My one friend that works in the plant that produces chains told me that we had some chains from the Subaru rally car, and I went over to check it out. I guess we were testing some prototype transfer case chains and they came back from Prodrive for evaluation. I stole the box they came in (had Prodrive labeled tape all over it) and tried to ask questions about what was going on but noone knew that much. Not too exciting, but I was suprised we would do something as race oriented as that. On the other hand we did design the timing chain system for the wining Indy 500 car last year...work is kinda neat sometimes!

Very cool! I'm an ex-Mustang owner (93) so I'm very familier with Borg-Warner (T5). Must be nice to be in the auto field. You guys make good stuff!

I've heard Borg-Warner was in serious financial trouble and didn't even make transmissions any more... their competitors do.

No finacial trouble at all.....just decided there was more money making other parts than tranny's and sold some parts of the company off. Just got the new financial report and I know our division made a lot more money from 98 to 99. Good solid company, just too bad that I dont like the area that the plant is located, I need more of a city than what is here . I love going to see engines being rung out on the dynos though, we are going to start some testing on the S2000 engine here in a week or two, can't wait to see the thing spun to 9k!!!
