This is great information, since the next upgrade on my car will be the tmic.

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but I bought a TMIC off ebay with the same dimensions and cfm as the CSS. And unabomber's psi drop is accurate it is under 1 psi@14.5, but the company I bought it from (CX Racing) rated it at .02-.04 @15psi and 3-5 at 38psi(like any subaru will ever see 38psi)... hope this is accurate if not ffree shot to the balls is welcome.....

I have searched but am unable i figure out if an STi tmic would a performance loss if paired with the stock turbo.
For example, i am shopping for a turbo/injector/tmic upgrade. If i find a cooler first and go ahead and install it before i get the turbo, will there be a pressure loss?

i have a 07 wrx tr and the tmic is not what it states for an 02-07. it is more like 19"x4"x2.5" core dimensions without endtanks. i think this is the same for the 06's as well, correct me if i am wrong.

Pressure drops are created by restrictions. The STI TMIC has more flow area than the stocker, not less (think of it like a larger diameter pipe). Thus, no increased pressure drop.

I am wondering about the small tank thing in the engine bay (here circled in red). It looks like it connects to the TMIC and you put fluids inside it.

I dont have an owners manual but what kind of fluids do you put in it, and how much? Do you top it off or fill it half way?

No. The STi intercooler will be fine until you complete your upgrade path.

Anything bigger, though, and you'd really want to tune for it (i.e. - an eBay TMIC or APS, etc.).

Sorry. I HAD to lol at this one.

I'll take it easy on you.

That's coolant. It does not touch the IC.

Thought the 06/07 wrx had a different shape of TMIC, not sure if the total volume is different but it uses the outer mounting hole on the passenger side.

Here is response from TurboXS regarding their TMIC.

when upgrading to aftermarket topmounts where/what do you do to mod the vacuum hose line that usually attaches to the front of the stock i/c setups. turboxs rep said that with their i/c (topmount) the hose is relocated to run under the throttle body intake and does not attach to the i/c? anyone have a pic of this? or anyother after market application w/ modification of this line
thanks

i recently put an STi tmic on my wrx, and swapped hood scoop splitter/bellows as well.

here is a brief write up i did, showing the differences in the scoop splitters/bellows...

this first pic shows the STi tmic (duh):

once i removed the wrx hoodscoop splitter/bellow, i placed it on top of the STi tmic so you can see how much smaller it is, and how much of the STi tmic is not being utilized due to the smaller wrx splitter/bellow:

here is the STi hoodscoop splitter/bellow resting on top, as you can see, a perfect seal:

now here are the two splitters side by side; STi on the left, wrx on the right. you notice that the STi one has a piece in the middle to deflect air to the lower part of the tmic:

install was a breeze, simply remove the 7 (seven) 8mm bolts, and the one plastic clip and gently pop the splitter piece off. align your new one to the holes, insert the two little tabs at the bottom and install the bolts, then plastic clip. it took me about 10 minutes.

Bump, will a GD intercooler (or GD specific for aftermarket) fit on a GC?

This will be on a Version 4 STi.

I believe would will encounter issues with the fitment where the IC connects to the throttle body. The newer WRX/STi used a different shaped intake manifold than the older GC WRX/STi setups. Now, if that is the case, i think this could be remedied by using a newer manifold, or positioning your IC differently. (different brackets/longer hose from turbo...)

While i have no personal experience with the issue (never did get that newer sti IC put on my old V5 car before i sold it), the current owner of my V5 STi is having to deal with the issue and we've talked a bit about it.

So, in the end, take it with a bit of salt, i could be wrong.

Is this type of mislocation of the mounting tabs common for aftermarket TMIC?

Passenger side comparison stock on top, Spearco on bottom.

Driver side comparison stock on top, Spearco on bottom.

The TMIC I had from vishnu on my 2004 fit properly.

Great write up! But I am still fuzzy on what I'll need for installation in my WRX. I have an STI TMIC and a vf39... I am told that the factory sti piping from the intercooler should reach just fine if pairing with the vf39. Is this right?

The TMIC I had from vishnu on my 2004 fit properly.
I have the exact same fitment problem with my Spearco's. I actually have both versions. The STI and WRX and they both suck when it comes to fitment. One is too far forward, the other is too far back. Even if you try to fit the STI version on an WRX (and vice versa) it doesn't fit properly.

I don't know what test car Spearco used to measured their Subaru TMIC's fitment for, but it wasn't any production model.

Ok, so I searched this but couldn't find anything. I may start my own thread if I don't get many answers. I am looking to upgrade to an STi top mount on my 04 WRX and was wondering if the stock BPV from my WRX will bolt right up to the STi top mount? Any help/opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Yes. If by BPV you mean recirculating valve.
