Default 1988 xt are they reliable?

i thought the car i was getting was a gl but found out its an 1988 XT 2 door coupe automatic, with 130k on it and the a/c still works, i got it for $500 cash , will it hold up as a good car to pick up parts and stuff in, if i take care of it?

Its pretty much the same as the GL but it should be multi point EFI rather than single point. (so it should make more power)

It may even have the spider intake

What I said for the GL stands... keep timing belts and seals on em and they run forever.

If it's an 88, I'm almost sure its a spider intake. 88 means it's not turbo either.

It's a 1.8-liter, 97-hp, EA82 engine. Pretty tough, and gas mileage is pretty good coz the car is so aerodynamic. Just keep oil in the engine (very difficult ) and you will have a cool-looking car with reliability to boot.

If the car is 2WD expect around 30-35 MPG if you go fairly easy on it. IF its 4WD hack off like 5 MPG...

different cars give different mileage though... I just got back from Reno in my 98 Impreza L and got 31 MPG going between 55 and 95 MPH (passing RV's)

I had an 86 GL 4WD that got almost 40 MPG, my friend had an 86 XT MPFI that got like 35 MPG (with 286K on the clock)
