Default Poor Paint on 04XT (Subarus in general)? Prevention?

Looks like the Subaru's are know for thier poor paint quality.
Came across this
Subaru Paint Sucks
and this Anyone got a cheap paint job?
My XT is silver metallic and since it has only a few hundred miles the paint is new and good. Since it is so vulnerable, what preventive measures can I take before I start seeing chips?

Is clear bra the best way to go?

Please post your comments and suggestions. Links to URLs in your post will be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Jai

Jai,

I would say so. I hear the same complaints and questions you have asked and what is those threads everyday. We offer the very best paint and hedlight protection.

I am sure others will agree with you that your best preventive maintenance for your vehicles paint and light is to protect it with clear bra.

Here are some links to pages for the Subaru Community

If you have any questions please let me know. I would be more than happy to help you out.

I have to agree....especially since I'm the one who posted Anyone got a cheap paint job? .

I now know several people who have the new protective film and swear by it. It does what it claims and can be removed at any time without damage to your paint. I only wish I had done it from the begining!

It's sooo worth the money.

Got a Q, how much for a Forester XT, installed, and who installs in the WNY (Buffalo) area?

I was JUST out washing my XT yesterday in the first 60 degree weather we've had, and my car is covered in chips that are through the friggin paint.

I'd seen one spot in the winter, but since it's typically below freezing I have to use the local automated touchless carwashes, this was my first hand-wash so my first really close inspection of the car.

The worst area is the bumper, where all the chips show the black beneath; the next worse is the curve of the hood (a deflector may work but I hate how they look) and then the lip of the hood scoop.

The car is a mere 5months old and has 6500miles on it, garage kept.

The 1995 GM I sold before buying the XT had THREE (3) chips in the hood that went through the paint, only one of those through the primer, and that car had 87,000miles on it and was never garage kept as it was my daily.

I know the new paints aren't as good as the older ones, but still Nissan got sued for their crappy paint, and other manufacturers have had better luck with their paints....Subaru really needs to work on this....or get sued like Nissan so we can get new paint.

Rockblocker may be an idea to prevent further damage, but it's a day late and a dollar short for what I've got now. If the paint's this crappy it ought to come as a standard feature...

Sorry to rant, but after washing it and seeing it all, I'm just so PO'd it's not funny.

I don't know about poor paint, maybe I am just lucky. I have a 2001 Legacy GT wagon, I admit it has low miles like only 19k, but it has been through 3 Ottawa winters and we are the salt capitol of the world in winter. As well most of my milage is in summer and the roads I use are frequented by gravel trucks.

I have one stone chip and that is on the front bumper and I did that dropping a wrench on it, as well there are no scratchs and very few paint swirls. I have owned many Hondas before this and the paint on this car is way better than any Honda I ever owned.

The honda clearcoat was much softer and prone to scratching, I admit to taking extremely good care of my car but like everybody else I have no control over road hazards the finish is holding up very well.Over the three years I have had several door dings all repaired by paintless dent removal, none of these chipped the paint either.

The kit costs $196 for the full kit. The installer sets the install cost. Not sure what they would charge you.

The closest shop I can refer you to is The Tint Shop in Rochester at (585) 232-TINT. I am sure there people in Buffalo doing this product but I have not made any contacts there yet.

I am very sorry to hear everyone complaints, truely I am. If I can help with anything please let me know. I always try and help out Subaru members. We gotta stick together.

@ 18k miles I do not have a single chip on my silver FXT.
That being said. I put my order in to RockBlocker anyway.
No need to tempt fate!

Guys and gals whether or not you have rocks chips in your paint now or the headlights are getting pitted from daily driving or not. The day will come when you will see what our roads can do to paint jobs.

I cant suggest enough to how great the clera bra is on the vehicles painted surfaces or headlights is. Yes you have to make a small investment to protect your car, but how much does it cost to repaint or replace the same parts that are covered. Not to mention the resale value of your car when you tarde or sell. Small price to pay in the long run.

Many dealers give up to $500 value on used cars in their minds because the car has no rock chips in it. 50,000 mile used car with no chips for a second owner means a lot.

Thanks, I'll give them a call.

Tried calling the local places, no one even heard of it.
Thought of asking the guys who did my excellent tint to do it, but figured I'd rather not be their first experiment.
