Exclamation My car hates to start sometimes. Anyone else with this problem?

Don't know where else to post this.

Sometimes for no reason my car will take about 3-4 second of cranking to start! Most of the time it startes just fine but sometimes it takes that long. It has nothing to do with how warm or cold the engine is. It sounds like it is getting no gas or sparm at all. It just cranks and all of a sudden starts.

Anyone else have this problem???

Eric

Yeah, I have that problem from time to time, it just sits there and cranks for like 5 seconds before it turns over. Damn Australian engines!

Well, for me, and I asume it's due to the cold, I would turn the key, the car turns over and starts running, then after no more than four seconds it dies out... Like it stalled, usualy if I don't pump the gas...

It only happened durring the first 3000 miles(I'm at 4300) and then would only happen maybe every week or two.?

I'm not sure if this would help you or not, but mine starts much easier with the STi motor and tranny mounts.

I know what this is, I had the same issue on a brand new 2001 RS. The fule pump needs to get up to presure, your right the engine isn't getting gas. Turn the key to on and let it sit for about 5 seconds, then try to start it.

Let me know if this helps.

My RS hasn't done any of the "things" that I see on this BB, ever. And the other day I ran into a guy who had a 2000 also and he had the starting problem aaannndddd his engine was knocking at the first 3000rpms for a minute or two.....either he was trying to make shop talk or he had a brain disorder! I even have 10,000 miles on mine (hard driven too)!

Sounds like a good idea. I'll try it and let you know!

Subie Gal: I know it isn't the battery. The car cranks just fine. And besides, the car is only 7 1/2 months old

I wouldn't discount subiegal's battery idea just based on age of the car though. I had a battery die out after 3 months in my new car once. There was an electrical "leak" that caused the battery to drain power overnight.

Pressurizing the fuel pump before starting is definately a good idea though ... good call there !
