Post Neon powerboost at 95?

I'm having fun with a neon on RT. 22 in Allentown He's keepin' the same distance from me as we accelerate (about 3 cars). As we approach 95mph i see him quickly gain on me. If it wasn't for the cars in the other lane I know for sure he would of flew by me. Neon's don't normally have a strong pull at that speed, do they? It didn't seem to have an exhaust. My fuel light was on so maybe she was starving, I don't know.

Unhappy

I got beat by one . But then again, I'm only an AT w/ Larry's intake. He had at least an exhaust and intake.

Actually, they can pull fairly well at that speed. In 4th gear at that speed they are in the powerband for the engine, so it will move fairly well up to the 118 mph. After that they are probably in 5th gear and then it sucks :/

R/T's have the Neon ACR gearing, and pull very well (at least as 2.0l N/A fours go) at those speeds.

cheers,

I Have a 98 R/T, hopefully not for to much longer just applied for my subaru visa card. The R/T and the ACR are not governed and 5th gear is not designed for gas mileage it is an acceleration 5th. There are also a few hahn race craft turbo neons out there now. I Have a mpeg of Len Ayala in his Neon at a dragstrip stomping a Viper. It is at www.neons.org/mopar (lennkillviper.mpeg) His car has run low 11's and I think into mid to high 10's now, on slicks. It is also his daily driver car!

With an automatic tranny, you are hitting 4th gear and into "overdrive" about the time the neon was passing you (I think 3rd is finished at 90mph?).

So at 95mph, 4th gear in the automatic tranny RS will put your revs much lower than 5th gear in a 5 speed RS (since it is geared for higher speed per rpm), therefore you have less acceleration than you need. Someday they will make an automatic tranny for any car that works as well for performance driving as a 5 speed. Nahhhh....

I see what you mean. However; I don't drive automatic. I'm going to have to try this again. This time I want a clear road. What has a higher top speed, RS or Neon (not limited)?
