Ford Focus RS preview...

i just got my beloved evo in the mail the other day & they have a short article on the upcoming factory-tuned turbo Focus (in Europe, anyway).

*Garrett tuned 220hp 2.0 Zetec turbo 16v, intercooled with "EVO VI-style intercooler".
*Performance tuned suspension to handle all that power through the front wheels.
*Subtle but aggressive styling with flared fenders and such, but much less garish than the FR200.
*Other cool stuff like brake ducting, interior mods, etc.

They expect, with the est. kerb weight of 1200kg, to hit 0-60 in under 6 sec., and a top speed of around 150mph. All that for about £21,500.

Now we need to hope that SVT over here puts the good stuff on the upcoming SVT Focus.

no, alas it has been deemed too expensive to rework the chassis for AWD.

yeah, it was going to be something like $40-50k to make it AWD. not too competitively priced. the SVT one isn't supposed to be a turbo, is it?

Our SVT will only get a 170HP NA motor

Plus if it looks like all the spypics, it doesnt even look as good as the RS.

There are 2 variations that might pop up in the US... The SVT and the RS

SVT = Possibly a V6 engine (same as in the Contour)
RS = 200hp turbo engine

Both are planned to be under $20k

Yep. When focus was at early design stage it was decided AWD was unecessary as only weird little Japanese companies used it in compact cars.

hahaha, would cost too much to change the floorpan now with new model due 2003.

Very good compatitor in the sport compact market, especially when you consider that its only real opponent would be the new WRX. It doesn't have AWD, but it does have potential, and turbo. I like its styling too. It is reminiscent of the rally car, but not so much that it looks tasteless or rice.

Damn that 2600 pound focus is gonna be one amazing highway warrior. Sure it'll loose from a dead stop to a wrx, but it'll pull like mad after the 60 footer.

I can see all the civic si owners trading in their ride for a focus rs right now

SVT will have a 4 cylinder. We wont get an RS in 2001 and if we do it will be in 2002. The cossie will come out for the Gen2 focus.
